Why is it that when we have a board meeting to discuss our coach's future - all details are almost instantly leaked to the press? And we have already heard 2 or 3 stories of Carlton players being chased by other clubs?

Yet, we as the bottom club and the team with the number 1 draft pick in the PSD, have had no stories written about who we are chasing? Why can't we get some positive stories out and put some pressure on other clubs to re-sign players. Surely, we are actively pursuing a number of players...has anyone heard any info about who we are targetting?

I don't think we'll attract anyone this year. There's no way any player would actually choose to come to Carlton given the state we're in. The best we can hope for is a ruckman who desperately wants a shot at a no 1 ruck mantle in an AFL team.

wow. umm. i must be on my own thinking that it would be a rewarding time to come to carlton. are we really that far off a good season? i think considering the afls hate for us were doing ok. a long way to go but we will be back. we definately should be chasing a ruckman who hasnt been given that chance to shine. and when they get that chance alot of ruckman do. i would like a giant 204cm+ who could be on that list?

I would like us to go for Stephen Doyle.....If Sydney get Everitt and then they have Jolly, then Doyles chances of getting a game would be very slim. I think we should go all out to get him.

Carlton have been chatting to many a coming out-of-contract/disgruntled player from opposition clubs throughout the year and every single one of them have said "Thanks, but no thanks"........

We've got the worst 'brand' in the AFL right now and not a single player NOT currently playing for us, wants to play for us - and it's not necessarily because of our list either, it's 'The Ogre' who scares them off each and every time.

It whiffs of Fitzroy. If rats start jumping ship a la Lynch, Roos, Blakey etc, be worried.

Exactly verbs, hence we've got to re-sign as many of these impressionable (i.e. possibly looking for the promise of far more immediate & greener pastures) young blokes ASAP. The more they talk to other Clubs, the more enticing it is to leave the MC Labour Park rabble.

Really Sherrin? What have you heard? Via trade or PSD? If he was coming to Carlton, you'd have to assume we'd be playing him as a backman. His position at Melbourne would have been strengthened via his two finals games where he was one of their best. If its via trade, they'd be expecting at least something decent.

Other player I hope we are really chasing hard is Wood from Brisbane. Young and looks a likely type. Obviously got many years up there before he is the number 1 ruckman - as he is behind Charman and possibly McDonald and Clark. Surely, we are at least putting some feelers out on this kid. Is out of contract I believe?

Hmmmm.....that's certainly worth a ponder, although Miller's 2006 hasn't been anything to write home about, but then again - neither was Thornton's 2005 season.

All I'll say is that Jared Rivers has been told to eat a lot of chicken over the Christmas break and has been given an instruction to get bigger to compete with the key forwards and not the 3rd best forward. Natan Carrol and he are the same height, but Carrol is far heavier.

The demons seem certain to hold onto Ryan Ferguson; and have huge wraps on Lyndon Dunn and Michael Newton who look likely to play forward. Newton is still 19, has had a coupe of back problems - but believe me, can play...kicked 12 against Bendigo 3 weeks ago. Carrol was the form defender for the dees this year and i'd say they'd be just as interested in Bret Thornton as some others going around as Nicholson is close to giving it away you'd think.

Millers' inconsistency and repeated Tribunal appearances have upset a few down there - would not be surprised if he a) ends up back at Brisbane as part of a 3 way Akermanis deal to the Dogs or b) gets shopped around and Carlton - IMHO - would be keen. Doesn't turn 24 until next July, so fits under the Smorgon age-cap.

I'm not as keen.

Miller is a Claytons KPP IMO. Plays the lead up CHF role well but we are not lacking in that area. Waite and to a lesser extent Kennedy for the next couple of years will fill that role.
As for the backline, I dont believe Miller has the tools to be a consistent key back. Another Saddington.
We have enough "almost" players. "Almost" a full back, "almost" a key forward.

Dont misunderstand, I like the way the guy goes about his footy but I think we need to set our sights higher.
From memory, he was dropped 3 times this year when he should be in his prime.
If he comes for next to nothing, OK. Otherwise, not for me.

Miller would have gone for not much until his final against Freo.

His price tage went up after that game.

His marking is very good but then he gives away handballs to opposing players. He suffered from osteitis pubis last year so that may have affected his kicking. FWIW I think he was a Carlton Supporter before being drafted to the Dees and T-Bird has mates from Melbourne trained with the Dees before we rookied him.

I will not be a happy person if we trade Thornton for Miller. I see and hear alot about the Dees because my brother and all him mates go for them. Miller pulls off big games every now and then as a backman and a forward. He had that one game against Barry Hall but has never really cemented a spot forward or back for the Dees. If we are going to trade Thornton can we at least get a either a high draft pick or an experienced young, defender.
All year, and the ones before that, all I hear is how much my brother wants Miller traded.
