I was hoping Irish would be read out as getting 3 votes in the game against Sydney. Would have meant a tie and given Westy a well derserved Charlie.

*sigh*

here I am.

and?

I'll say it once more. I am in favour of trading Stevens if it could lead to the betterment of our club.

I would not trade him for Ty Zantuck however.

Anyone who thinks Stevens was our 3rd best player for the year is on something stronger than I am.

Brett Ratten got zero votes in 1995 and won our best and fairest.

Brownlow is a ripper indication isn't it?

Stevens had a very good year?

Elwood is spot on. It's about expectation. If Stevens was a 3rd year midfielder with < 50 games under his belt, and on, say, $150k per year...

yep! Ripper season.

I pretty sure he's not though.

I like Nick. I think he works hard most of the time and I know he's been playing hurt most of the season.

If we shop him around, and can secure a deal that will help us build a premiership team in 5-8 years, then I believe it's more beneficial to us than Nick racking up 8 brownlow votes.

I might be wrong. I'm sure nick will win the brownlow next year and lead carlton to a glorious top 4 finish. And there will be no shortage of people waiting to lop off my bollocks.

But it's a suggestion based on the long term betterment of the club (and frankly, Nick Steven's career - he will be a far better player in a top 4-8 club than our club, and let's face it, we weren't exactly his chosen home).

If we get poor offers, or offers that leave us in a similar or worse position than we are now, then fine. No trade, and I hope Nick wins the 2007 B&F.

8 brownlow votes isn't exactly justification of any superstar status.

So before people are branded tall poppy cutters or anti stevens, look at the reasons for such suggestions.

You reckon there isn't already?

The biggest problem is you've only got two balls.

Not sure what it says but interesting to see a few constant vote winners in the games we won or drew.

Now please make two lines: one for those who think this shows how important these two are, another for those who reckon they're frontrunners.

Round 1
Carlton 13.15 (93) d Melbourne 10.12 (72)
3 Stevens (Ca), 2 Scotland (Ca), 1 Waite (Ca)

Round Seven
Carlton 17.9 (111) d Essendon* 11.12 (78)
3 Stevens (Ca), 2 Fevola (Ca), 1 Scotland (Ca)

Round 16
Essendon* 16.9 (105) drew Carlton 15.15 (105)
3 Scotland (Ca), 2 Simpson (Ca), 1 Lucas (E)

Round 18
Carlton 12.8 (80) d Melbourne 10.13 (73)
3 Scotland (Ca), 2 Stevens (Ca), 1 Walker (Ca)

Where's Whitnall in this figures..

I thought as he is going to be the next Carlton captain he would lead from the front in such matches.

oh that is right - i forgot. Leadership isn't supposed to be inspirational ala stevens bursting out of midfield with pinpoint pass to forward line or Fevola taking on three defenders... it is supposed to be the person that can direct traffic on the backline. Someone who can wave his finger around.

I get it... those are the matches we should be lookin at.

Captain Whitnall.. here we come..

..expectin' Stevens to perform as well as Cousins, Judd, Kerr and co. whilst carrying an injury and playin' in the worst team since Fitzroy (debatable, we could very well be worse!!) is downright silly.. ..i reckon if you swapped Judd fer Stevens he'd soon be struggling exactly the same.. ..and if we got rid of Stevens, our young mids such as Murphy and Simmo will get slaughtered and will be looking for an exit faster than you can pick yer nose.. ..and Gibbs if we get him won't hang around longer than his obligatory 2yrs either.. ..Stevens and Murphy are our only 2 quality mids, i prefer Simmo on a wing.. ..you ditch Stevens and Murphy will get both belted and tagged and turn into shite faster than last night's curry..

Right let me think.....Hmmmm our midfield is the worst in the AFL so why not trade our best onballer yeah that makes sense BH.......NOT!!!

I see your suggestions and i've read them and tossed them in the Makes no sense tray.
This is my thought:
We have a shitouse midfield so we trade Stevens hence making Murphy a target at the age of 19!! The poor kid will be stuffed by the time he get's 2 the age of 22. The other problem is that we don't have any experience in the team and the one man who mentors young murph is guess who...... that's right none other than Nick Stevens!! I've said it once and i'll say it again and again you don't get rid of quality players.

Murphy's already a target.

That's why he missed half a season, remember?

Maybe we get the match-ups right in these games allowing Stevens to play his natural game?

Maybe neither team (Essendon*, melbourne) floods very well (if at all) allowing Carlton's Game Plan A to be effective? Maybe when other teams do flood these guys get caught out (as do most of the team) and we struggle?

I wouldnt have thought that much to the consequence of any parallel here.

Don't kid yourself son. Remember he did turn down playing with those blokes at the start of the year. They just wanted 2 show him how pissed they where at missing out on such a future star!! Don't know if you watch us play week in week out like myself but he was not even worried about by other teams...... yet.

Point a. I'm not your son.

Point b. He was tagged week in week out. Just 'cos he dealt with it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Wow, Deano, you've been put back in your box.... :garthp:

I guess it's that same old line coming out, but from someone new....

How many games did you actually watch??? i'm guessing none. He played 70% of his game time as a Half Forward!!!!!!!! I suggest you get some tapes of the first half of the season and name one player or even one game he was tagged in!!!

Point C: Get your facts correct.

Well there was the lesson he gave Stenglein.

I've watched more games than you've had hot dinners, son.

Now that we're done comparing dick sizes, why don't you be a good little lad and go play on the train lines.
