also interesting to see that the AFL rejected the PP bid on monday - Seems to have taken a while to be reported.

Now I guess its up to the board to go ahead and take it to court?

It just beggars belief what T-bird is being offered when compared to what the Unlucky All-Australian is getting ... and the 40-year-old former captain.

Would love someone at the club to explain the rationale for this ... must be the club's rated list thingy.

Perhaps it's been decided that something has to be given up to get another early pick :? :? :? :? :? :?

But a 22-year-old KP in a side bereft of key defenders??? And will he achieve a first-rounder???

at least there are 'buyers' - we 'should' do well out of any trade - that is unless thornton says he will only go to the hawks (cant see him turning down doggies or perhaps another contending club - salary might be an issue though).

You can't accuse his manager of negotiating through the media - $150K base is ridiculous for a player like him who is amongst the first picked every week.

You can almost forgive Thornton for wanting to go to a club where it's more professionally run...

We must be bloody crazy to let Thornton slip. This would be a negative step for the club.
But if he must be traded then no less that pick 15 and their 2nd rounder pick 24.
Ciao

I wouldn't blame Thornton either if you see the immense difference between the two deals put in front of him!

At Carlton, $150,000 guaranteed, potentially up to $240,000 in Year 1 and $260,000 in Year 2.

Or Hawks $300,000 for 3 years.

If we lose our best legitimate KPP after re-signing Lance last year and Kouta this year, my love for this club will have reached the breaking point. :x

The AFL can get [REDACTED] after shafting us with that PP ruling and costing this very poor list another player we're entitled to. :x

8 wins in two seasons doesn't warrant another early PP! :x

At least our Admin and board have ensured we get another one next year if Tbird goes. :x

We have a poor list and we're doing our best to make it worse.

Can't blame Thornton for rejecting the Club's offer, it's just an insult.
I cannot understand the reasoning.
Surely he has proved his worth as a KPP and is a reqiured player?

Yeah quick lets sign Thornton up when Hawthorn are offering us Hodge and pick 6 in a trade.

You lot have no clue.

There is no point waiting for the trade when you know they won't offer us anything close to what Thornton will!

The only way they can entice me to get rid of a 22 year old, 5 year, near 100 game full back by offering pick 6, nothing less and i doubt they would do that. . Anything other than that and we should keep Thornton because he will offer us more than what they will.

Let's not jump to hysterics, people.

We all know how accurate the media can be sometimes [sarcasm emoticon].

Anyway, let's imagine that this does take place and Hawthorn do snare Thornton via trade.

Their extremely promising KP talls would consist of Roughead, Franklin, Thornton and possibly Thorp/L-berger/Sellar with pick 5.

An amazing job considering their list a couple of years ago.

[jealous emoticon]

He finished 7th in our B&F didn't he? He's only 22 and is holding down a KP in the worst team in the comp. And we offer him only $150K for 2 years.

No wonder why Jim Watts gave us a shit report card.

Hopefully the AFL will step in and 'appoint' some help.

You lot have no clue.

Ill tell you what?

You go find your briefcase and put on your spectacles and go negotiate us that deal for T Bird.

We wont be getting theit fisrt rounder.. we will probably get their second rounder but we will have to give them our fouth or something.

And we have no full back!!!

Hawthorn are a professional outfit that understands trades and the draft...and will negotiate from a position of strength.

At very worst for them the deal will fall though and a 22 year old kid will have a bad taste in his mouth about this club.
It is not the kind of environemt a smart club should be creating for itself..

And by the way.. say hellllooooooo.. Guy Richards...

Were dumb... were pathetic and more of this and Thornton will not be the only one to leave over the next few years.

Just a pathetically run club.

Now if any one calls me negative ill snot them!!!
