I can't think of a single player that has left CFC in the past four years (Pagan's period of list management) and gone on to bigger and better things.

Massie maybe?

I might be a dreamer (but I'm not the only one), but I'm of the opinion that our football department has a bloody good eye for talent on our list. As in, whether we've squeezed the best out of our players and don't mind if they move on kind of thing

Of course the hilarious rebuttal to this is that our list has been so shit that no-one's been any good anyway - bwahahaha. That's so funny

What's not funny is the same football department is pretty rank at bringing in experienced players. Can't win 'em all, I guess

Yeah nah, if Thornton (or any other uncontracted player) leaves, it'll be with the blessing of the footy department - and I trust their assessment of our list.

Can't believe I'm saying that

Massie was BD (Before Denis) for the record i was p1ssed we got rid of him.

I agree with your comments here, We have recruited mostly talented footballers from the opportunities we've had. My only beef is that we let Hulme and Franchina go 12-24 months too soon. They could have been very handy as experienced players with tougher bodies.

2004 made people think we were further down the track than we were.

I'm glad in a way that we've had this period of gloom now because the teams that have won the flag since 2001 are all sides that have benefited in salary or player exemptions over the last 10 years. We would never have been close when you battling with one arm tied.

When we come good in 2-3 years ( maybe 4) we'll be competing with teams on a leven playing field for the first time in a long stretch.

God I hate Hawthorn supporters.

Got a msg today from a mate saying "You watching White Line Fever? Hawthorn's going to get Brent Thornton!".

Politely told him that his name is BRET Thornton & to @#$%&! the hell off.

Truth is that we had two decent picks in the draft in the 10 years before Walker was picked. One of them has left and the other is Luke Livingstone. Our list is shit for that reason.

What pick did we get Fev with?

I think everyone needs to chill.
Negotiations are exactly that.
The reports are that Thornton has been offered 240-260 per year. Thats a fair offer.
I am pleased that the club is offering players what they think they are worth rather than what they want. Hopefully those days are long gone.
Trade week isnt even here yet. Carlton are negotiating. The players agent and thus the player have decided to make his public to place pressure on the club.
If carlton simply cave in now, in 2-4 years when the likes of Murphy, Kennedy, Simpson etc etc are coming out of contracts, their managers will do the same thing.

Anyway does Hawthorn have Carlton's permission to talk to Thornton. I doubt it.
So either its bullshit or Hawthorn is "tapping up" Thornton while under contract which is ion breach of AFL regulations and should lead to draft penalties

Useless cauliflower. SEN were talking about Fisher still uncontraced on the run home tonight. Why can't they simply release a statement saying he has signed to stop the flower bullshit.

To be honest i didn't really care whether Fish signed or not - T-Bird is the one I'm worried about. If we think our backline can function without him we are more of basket case than i thought. Signing Kouta ahead of guys like T-Bird was a mistake - simple!! What was the urgency of resigning Kouta anyway???!!!!!

Because he agreed to a contact sooner... as has Fish & Eddie apparently. I'm not arguing that signing Kouta was the best thing to do but the assumption that the signing of contracts is somehow a linear process amuses me...

that's interesting - as didn't Malouf say that Fisher & T-Bird's contracts were negotiated at the end of the season?

Mate, good or not people they have a growing audience which linked with the news and television spin is what the majority of Carlton members and sponsors hear.

Get a frigin positive message out through any outlet and the positivity may rub off for a chance.

Playing for either Carlton or Hawthorn, he will never be able to catch Adam Goodes. That's the sad fact.

Smorgan announced at GF lunch that Fisher and Betts were continuing with the Blues. Also stated that Thornton is Carlton through and through and would have been mortified to read in the papers that he was leaving the club.

The comment was something along the lines of doing everything we can to retain him (Can't remember verbatim - alcohol and basking in the after glow of the Betts and Fisher resignings distracted my focus)

You are such a boring bastard Synbad. You couldn't wait to announce Fish's resigning when you should have been getting drunk.
