WHy do you think it is so stupid. Do you honestly think the club can survive in its current form. It cant in my opinion. You can disagree with me about dropping the name but we are F@%&#! at the moment because not only does our club dont go with the times we dont think about the future.
9 clubs in Melbourne doesnt work Mjonc you see. The Kangaroos will become the Gold Coast team down the track. The Hawks have Tassie covered for the next 5 years.A study has been done and a third team has is viable in the West according to the report now.
For whatever the reason, we at Carlton supporters and the board alike reckon we can survive in our current form because we are Carlton.
This culture is the main reason that has got us in the shit in the first place.
Sure we pick up good kids win more games more people will turn up. But long term that wont guarentee the Clubs economical future. It will become harder and harder as the competition further expands and the cost of running an AFL club increases. Why not go with it so we become stronger economically.
If you think I am a tool fine. But at least back it up with some evidence. Jeff Kennett is on the money. 9 clubs in Melbourne wont work. 5 maybe 6 will. I believe Hawthorn are right in what they are doing. And they are in a lot healthier shape than we are. And why are they called Hawthorn now. They havent played there for 33 years they dont train there anymore.
They still have a base in Melbourne but will get 20 million for playing interstate.
My argument is the names of the suburbs are less relevant now than they were 30 years ago. My brother is a Doggie supporter. When the club got rid of the Footscray name he was a bit upset but now couldnt give a F@%&#!. Most doggie supporters are the same.
Because Carlton dont embrace change very well we are in the predictament we are in. A new board ,new coach and dollars from Brown and Pratt IMO is only a short term fix.
Selling the name for the future? What do you estimate $ value that a name change will bring to the club?
Your selling tradition, Bulldogs and Kangaroos have sold their tradition and still are welfare agents of the AFL. So again please enlighten me as to the $ value that changing our name will bring to the club?
I follow Carlton, the Carlton that is based in the suburb Carlton, the Carlton that has such a strong Italian association, including Italy centric Lygon St which just so happens to be in Carlton.
We have won 16 premierships as you guessed it Carlton. the famous catch cry of all supporters when referring to us is Caaaaaarrrlton.
As Sticks told everyone at the B&F night, we are Carlton!!!!
