The SANFL has never been affiliated with the AFL. The AFL is a continuance of the VFL. The VFL did not dissolve, it changed name and expanded. The current VFL is to blame for how many view the former VFL. They should have stayed the VFA and been done with it.

Port won their flags in the SANFL against completely different teams. Carlton won their flags in the VFL against many of the current teams. We never left the VFL, just woke up in 1990 and went to work the same as always. The workplace just had new signage out the front. i.e Telecom/Telstra.

Port on the other hand changed companies. i.e Optus to Telstra.

Congratulations WestCoast ... a true champion team.

Haha, the rules of eligibility to the Big V were a laugh … right, you're not eligible to play for WA, cool you can play for us. Oh but I was born a bred in Adelaide. Shh, noone will notice. On the other hand, we won our first 16 flags over 99 years. The Eagles 3 in 20 years equals 15 in 100 years. Big difference in sustaining it over 100 years than 20. They'll have their lean patch too in the next 80-90 years.

As for the VFL/AFL argument some brought up, the interstate clubs joined OUR competition. It's not as if a new compettiton was started up, just that the "VFL" changed it name to "AFL". Same entity, different name.

everyone knows that the AFL is really just an expanded version of the VFL with a few extra teams. They joined our competition, that's their problem.

The Carlton Football Club is the most succesful team of all time. We have 16, yes 16 premierships. I know Essendon* does, but we have beaten Essendon* more times than they've beaten us, and im sure we have less wooden spoons than them, so if it had to come down to it, i think we are the most succesful.

Yes Port has the million premierships in the SANFL, but thats irrelevant. The AFL is an expanded version of the VFL, with a few extra teams that came to join our competition, because they knew it was the best. They knew when coming to join our competition that all their SANFL records etc would not count. As Jaruso said, players from all over the country came to play for VFL teams, it was the highlest league in Australia, exactly what the AFL is now.

Carlton (Essendon* if you like as well) are the most succesful AFL club and until West Coast get to 16 or 17 premierships, then they can take the bragging rights, but of course by then, we will have like 35 premierships.....i hope
