We will have serious competition for the spoon next year between Lions, North and Bombers. I'm tipping at least 6 wins for us, more than likely 8.

Not being a smartarse mjonc but who are the 8 wins against?

Its simply a matter of confidence and injuries. We can beat anyone on our day in Melbourne with a full team in. I'm confident we can knock off Collingwood, Essendon*, North, Melbourne, Hawthorn, Richmond and Brisbane. If we play a couple of these teams twice and double up that is eight wins.

The concern I have is we lost 2-3 games this year from poor coaching IMO, buts that is another story already with a million threads on it.

with a new coach who knows what our youngsters can do :)

So what do you think a new coach would bring to the table Budzy?

More wins? How many more than this year?

The focus should be on development don't you think bondi?

With PROPER development comes wins, agree?

The days of fully developing in the reserves (VFL) and being 'ready' to fully perform at the required level at AFL standard are gone.
You can only develop so much at VFL level imo. Development/learning needs to take place at AFL level and sitting on the pine for most of the day aint development IMO.
Setanta, Bower, Smith/Jackson, Blackers, Kennedy, Russell should have been given a lot more AFL minutes this year. No harm in giving Jake & Raso a taste in the last couple of matches either.

Wins are secondary to me. Development comes first.

We're on the same page Budzy. You can't learn everything in the reserves, or sitting on the pine.

I think the main difference we'll see in 2007 is the delisted players not being there taking precious development time away from the kids. Although I do expect to see remaining on the list the likes of: Saddington, Wiggins, Teague, McGrath and possibly Sporn (unless we take 2 in the PSD, or promote 2 rookies), but I hope they don't get in the way of the kids. DeLuca wont be in anyone's way (he'll be our clumsy ruckman out of desperation), and Kouta and Lappin I expect to be rotated on the bench in there last year...if Pagan (is there and) embraces rotation policy.

I wont be surprised to see Edwards getting a few games next year (putting pressure on Fisher), and Raso would be good to see too.

We'll win a few more than this year.

What club ... what a powerhouse ... what a proud supporter base ...

I would have been much prouder if we had beaten the pies in round 21 this year and missed out on pick 17. Footy is about wins! Snagging a 10 year 200 game player means nothing to me!

I mean look back to 2005, we beat Collingwood in a meaningless game and I have never been prouder than that night. Eventhough Collingwood had half their team out I sang the song with so much pride! Oh and the train ride home with Collingwood supporters laughing their guts out at us, I know deep down they were hurting so badly! Who the hell would want pick 2 in a draft anyway! There's no guarantees - just as likely to turn out a dud!!

I've re-thought this and there is no reason to win 4 games in 2007 when we can win 6. I mean once we win 6 we will then win 10 then 15 then the premiership, it is INEVITABLE! it's just a matter of getting the ball rolling! Once that ball is rolling an extra GUN player like Luke Ball or Andrew Walker is insignificant!

Go blues! Lets get the ball rolling and win 6 games in 2007!

2007 will be about who isn't playing for Carlton. Step 1 is the list change. Step 2 is rounds 1 - 22.

Usually things are never as bad as they seem or as good as they appear.

Yes Carlton has problems, but there is more upside now than in 2002 or 2003.

Im certainly not giving us the spoon in 2007, although we will probably be bottom 4.

Now that's a different story.

Stranger things have happened.

Putting together 8 wins is certaintly realistic.

I expect our real revival to happen in 2008 or 2009.. Bottom 4 in 2007, but not the wooden spoon is realistic.

If we change board and coach later this year though, we might do better than bottom 4 in 2007. I think that a board challenge and new coach is desirable, but Im not factoring this in right now, hence the bottom 4 prediction.
