INT Rules again

Well boys and girls, its that time again.
Looks like we might have a better team up this year, Tadhg, Setanta, Quigley, Begley all int he reckoning, I hope so anyway, it would be terrible for the game if we got hammered twice. Hope big bad barry is coming this year, the Irish crowd will love him.
I will keep up up to date if anyone is interested, I am also planning to go to a training session so if I do I'll get some pics and get them on here for you.

I'm sure the Irish would Love Bazza if he plays as well as he did yesterday... :lol:

Would Aisake be in the mix for a guernsey too?

I havent heard his name being mentioned KK, but he might be, his height would be a huge advantage if the ball was played in to him at FF, we that would mean we would have two guys at FF or thereabouts at 6'5 and 6'8, a big advantage if the ball was being played in.

Meh.

While I love our Irish superstars, the IR is a bit "who cares" for me.

I just hope no-one gets injured.

Might be just the thing that Aisake needs to get his name up in lights.

I remember when Mark Naley came over to Carlton in 1987 he was pretty poor in the first part of the season for us then he was called up for State of Origin duty for South Australia - he played a blinder for SA - and it was like he gained some confidence (or the match committee gaines some confidence in him) and he became a great player for us that season.

Might be the filip that Aisake (and to a lesser extent Setanta

) needs for next season.

I love the International Rules game. It would be great if both our O'hAilpins were picked to play. I'm assuming Fox Sports 3 will be showing replays? Will Ch9 have the rights?

Anyone know who we have in line for selection?

Not sure if I want our lads to be out there falling prey to behind the play king-hits "inspired" by Sheedy's thug tactics.

Or do they only have the balls to do that on our home turf??

A proactive board would be championing their cause very strongly I would have thought. It would be a fantastic experience and learning curve for them both. Aisake especially.

Cant wait for INTL rules got weekend booked up in galway with friend so should be class esp with ppl up for bank holiday weekend. I think sinÃ©ad is goin 2 so if any one from TC is coming over for games we can have TC in Ireland meet up :-D

Boylan announces first draft of Rules panel

Wednesday, October 11

The manager of the Coca Cola Ireland International Rules team Mr Sean Boylan has announced the players still in contention to be part of the Ireland panel for the forthcoming Test Series against Australia in Pearse Stadium on October 28th and Croke Park on November 5th. On Friday, the Ireland panel will travel to France for a training weekend and Mr Boylan explained that the final panel of twenty seven players will be announced following this at a Press Briefing in Croke Park on Wednesday October 18th.

The players involved are: Aidan O Mahoney, Marc Ã“ SÃ©, Paul Galvin, Kieran Donaghy, Brendan Guiney (Kerry), Tadhg Kennelly (Sydney Swans & Kerry), Kevin Reilly, Anthony Moyles, Graham Geraghty, Joe Sheridan, Charles Mc Carthy (Meath), Alan Quirke, Ger Spillane, Nicholas Murphy, Donncha O Connor (Cork), Kieran Mc Geeney, Ronan Clarke, Stephen Mc Donnell (Armagh), Darren Rooney, Tom Kelly (Laois), Colm Begley (Brisbane Lions & Laois), Sean Martin Lockhart, Paddy Bradley (Derry), Shane Ryan, Alan Brogan (Dublin), Kieran Fitzgerald, Joe Bergin (Galway), Sean Cavanagh, Stephen O Neill (Tyrone), Brendan Coulter, Michael Walsh (Down), Alan Dillon, Ger Brady (Mayo), Paul Barden (Longford), Dermot Early (Kildare), Johnny Mc Carthy (Limerick), Karl Lacey (Donegal), Karl Slattery (Offaly) and Dessie Dolan (Westmeath).

Mr Boylan said that the ongoing involvement of a number of players with their clubs in county championships and in the Interprovincial Championship had delayed the naming of a finalised panel. He said "We are currently monitoring the progress of a number of players. Some of the lads have not been able to attend as many of the training sessions as we would have liked because of club commitments in particular. There are also the usual worries with injuries and fitness, but after this weekend, we will have a clear indication of where we stand." He said he was delighted with the enthusiasm shown by all of the players involved but acknowledged that there would be difficult decisions to be made in terms of the final panel. He also said that he hoped to make contact with Setanta O hAlpin (Carlton & Cork) in the coming days with a view to his inclusion in the panel.

Commenting on the announcement, Public Affairs and Communications Manager for Coca-Cola Bottlers Ireland, Mo Durkan said: "I know that competition remains high for a place on this year's Coca-Cola International Rules panel, and that all of the players involved have been extremely focussed and committed at the training sessions over the last few weekends. With the best of the country's footballers all still in contention for a place, Sean and his management team have the unenviable task ahead of trimming down the squad and selecting the players they feel will be best equipped to take on the Australians in the two-test Coca-Cola International Rules Series later this month".

All in all, not great, a lot of boys from squads who didnt really catch the eye this year, either the teams themselves or the players, though Kerry and Cork did themselves justice, Dublin were maybe the fittest and strongest team this year and ended up with two reps on it, 2 very good reps but only two is a joke.

Big(ish) very experienced side, hopefully we make more a match of it this year, but it will be VERY VERY tough

Dont mind the international series and I think it gives a player like Kade Simpson the kudos he deserves and would make him believe that he has arrived and is in the top bracket of midfielders and will learn a few more tricks mixing with some of the better players of the AFL...for a player who couldnt touch the footy in his first couple of games to be representing the AFL/Aus at international level is a fair effort, even Sheedy is glowing in his praise....

I thoroughly enjoy the IR series..... I look forward to it each year.

The irish always seem to be more graceful than us as we are generally more bulked up and they can usually judge the round ball in the air a bit better than us.

I reckon it's a great game.
