I may be wrong, but wasn't Malouf a Carlton supporter/ member before his current CEO role?

Hawthorn supporter I thought but good friends with Craig Bradley somehow.

What a lot of nonsensical, insincere PR spin. The more I hear from the lot of them, the more convinced I am that at least three-quarters of them will be gone before too long.

Desperately hopeless measures from some hopelessly desperate men.

It might be a farce, and they may be in a precarious position, but lets remember that 3 of them are lifetime Carlton people; so admire them for that. They're doing their best to put a positive spin on at a terrible time in our history; that's all I can ask for at this stage with these people.

Yes Smorgon, Malouf and Kernahan may not seem to be the best board candidates, as there's always someone better out there, but they are doing their best for Carlton; regardless of the fact that you may want more.

Lets not say 'hopeless' against such a dark backdrop, just say not convinced that this is the best we can muster for the times.

A board spill should not bitter and divisive, it should be based on the merits of the candidates plan moving forward.

Be disappointed but don't bag your own.

I think the members/supporters have been very patient and understanding but are entitled to view this united front with suspicion and have every right to bag the club on all fronts...

"we have a plan"
" we have the people in place"
" we have the leadership"

Same people, same leadership(if you could even call it that), and little evidence of a plan except running to the AFL for money...thats not a plan.
I think the club are selling the members/supporters short if they think this bit of media spin will appease the masses....

F**k, why would anyone want to run this club, when all their OWN people want to do is shoot them down.

Give them a chance. If we are stuck with them, we might as well make the best of it.

Sheesh!

Yeah good post mate! I know what you mean, and i've been guilty of perhaps being to negative as well.
But i think most fans are just frustrated that we've had to wait this damn long for the tiniest of steps be it positive or not.

He is mates with Braddles thru business dealings with the City of Melbourne when Malouf was there, but he is a Geelong man.

DUC you've said that a couple of times but I remember an article at the time of his appointment saying he was a Hawks man. Couldn't find it though...

I stand corrected Molsey and to other posters - Malouf was a patron at Hawthorn.

Sorry about the error. :(

Thing positive in this because it was done without the knowledge of the board as a whole.. and it shoirt circuited a situation that needed addressing.
There was to be a vote at 4 pm and it was knocked over at 12 pm.

You can think of me as negative,..but these kind of things usually have no longevity.

Its like a marriage where everyone thinks is going ok..but behind closed doors there are some serious issues that need addressing and in the end it falls over.

I'm thinking about this like a marriage. You have two options should the marriage turn to crap, you can split and move your seperate ways, or you can try to turn it around - try to find that spark again.

Pago being around is like having kids in the marriage (or maybe a better analogy is a huge seperation payout). Either way, its the sticking block to splitting. So we have made the decision to keep the union going.

Now you can keep all the crap festering in the back-ground, or you can try and make a go and righting the wrongs.

As I see it, The board is trying to right the wrongs. They have come out on the front foot and tried to provide the information that they now understand the supporters/members need. We've even had Hughes on SEN today. They are obviously making a media blitz at present.

Provided they keep at it, people's perceptions will change.

I for one now would like to support the board (trust me thats a 180o flip) unless something 1000% better comes along (say Fahour, Grollo et al)

This AINT going to happen, so lets make the most of this marriage.

Yes this board has stuffed up majorly, but I can see the seeds of them trying to right it too. I'm giving them a chance.

Agree with you to a point chucky, but it's not enough for them to just try, they also have to be effective too. I have no doubt about the intentions of the board, just their ability to execute.

And Sticks' comments as quoted could be lifted directly from Davd Williamson's "The Club", they are not good enough for a club trying to present a professional approach to potential sponsors. I love his passion, but in this case it's misplaced. And his comments concern me as he's the VP of the club.

So far Malouf seems to be more comfortable in the background, Pagan is definately more comfortable in the background, Smorgon hasn't exactly been impressive and Sticks is a downright liability in the publicity stakes.

What the club desparately needs is an extremely professional public face, and I just can't see that happening with the current board and executive of the club.

Bluechucky take another read of what Synbad wrote.

1) the board agreed to meet at a certain time and place to vote, it appears, on whether to give Malouf the arse (among other things).

2) before that happened half the board took it upon themselves to hold their on little private press confernce with the coach and the media, without the knowledge of the other board members, and which completely undermined the ability for 1) to happen.

You don't see that as a problem? If what Synbad is reporting is true then we don't even have a board anymore we a group of factions running their own agendas and jockeying for position so that when the EGM comes they can all argue that they should be the ones to stay.

Is there a word that means the same as debacle only much much larger?
