Kapt Kouta,

IIRC Clem is right. The Lions had to get special permission for Voss's payout to not affect their salary cap if he retired. Was reported in the Herald Sun a couple of weeks ago and I believe the figure mentioned was $1m.

The AFL made Brisbane include his contract under next years cap (vetrans List) but he has been linked strongly to the Blues.

Ah, yes, I vaguely remember reading about that a while back.

Word in the media is that he is going to work as a TV comentator (Ch 7 or 10) next year. Heard an interview with him last week where he said the he would like to do "something else" for at least one year before contemplating coaching roles once he retires.

No it's not!

SOS and Bradles were owed $ after they retired. We paid the price.

And it couldn't be true because it would lead to the same result.

Imagine if you could pay $1M to Judd, Reiwoldt, Brown, Cousins, Kerr, Cox, Bolton, Goodes....to join Carlton, but they were to be paid after they retire.

Imagine the sponsors that would flock us. How many jumpers would we sell? Would the Dome be big enough for our members?

We'd do it for a few years, under wraps, till others cottoned onto it. Once exposed, we would have won 3 flags, then when the others start playing the game, we trickle trade some of these stars back for all early drafts and perpetually rebuild; by being one up on all the others with sponsors, success, loved, hated, players and money.

...we'd be the old Carlton again.

I'd just like to know...

this talk of two assistants. Are these simply assistants to replace Elshaugh and (presumably) Mitchell? Or are the two assistants to be two actual extra assistant coaches ie. Libba + Daniher + Elshaugh replacement + Mitchell replacement + ? + ?

Additional.

But no details as yet as to the structure of the new department.

Well that is a very positive step then. Definitely headed in the right direction. I'd still prefer a new senior coach - but I guess you can't have everything. Cheers Molsey

Reading TC has made me a woeful cynic and I couldnt help but be suspicious that the signing of at least one high profile assistant wouldnt be part of the 'Save Smorgo' campaign. In that regard Voss would be Pure Gold!!!

I read somewhere how Sticks had made great stock of how having Voss would add real credibility to any football club. Not sure that is the specific priority quality that most other clubs would be needing to bring on board, but its something we are in desperately short supply of at the moment. If we can get him great, but I wonder what is in it for Voss, you'd think he has the world at his feet right now. The whole AFL world is hanging on his every word waiting for him to select whom is to be honoured with the right to pay him heaps of $$$. What would be his reason for choosing us (aside from $$$).

Apparently the was a Blues fan growing up. It's not much, but it's something no other club can offer him.

Noone else can offer him Marc Murphy either. ;)

So Gibbs will get drafted, refuse to come in his first year, play one year for the Blues, then head back to Adelaide to play "Final's Footy".... Then 5 years later, Carlton wins 3-on-the-trot...

I'd take that...

Alas, that's the big tip. Den Den is all over him.

All we need, Trout Mark II.

From Brettie's discussion with Smorgon
Quote:
- Two new assistant coaches (currently being decided upon by Pagan) will hopefully be announced within the next couple of weeks.

Very concerning

Mitchell's future still undecided _ but Den Den doesn't want a bar of him.

Announcements possible tomorrow or during the weekend.

I read somewhere last week that Voss was making some sort of decision today, not sure if it was a decision on his playing future or where he wants to be next year. All i remember reading is " he will announce his decision Friday" being today!

Mentioned in Todays Hun.
Announcement expected any day.

Why would I expect any more?
Replace one ex North assistant with another.
Next we'll have Trout turn up in a dress and be assistant coach Doubtfire.

How sad that quality assistants like Rawlings and McRae are being snapped up and we're letting Pagan collect another bunch of yesterdays yes men.
