Didn't want to start another post but I heard the tail end of 3AW this arvo and can someone confirm if Jones actually said that he has been approached to be part of a new ticket to challenge the board?

I could be way off the mark bit did someone else hear Deano on 3AW?

One thing I did hear was the canning we received from callers and Carro.

Didn't he say something off air, but was on air, about someone looking like a terrorist. I don't want someone on the board who i personally reckon is afraid to say what he feels unless it's by accident.

What a stupid comment.

Deano's comment was misconstrued by the media who beat it up to sell papers in the current political climent. Yep Deano called the refered to the bloke as Terrorist - That is his bloody nickname amongst his own team mates and one he doesnt fret over (ie he has a sense of humour).

Stupid Stupid comment

Yes, he has been approached.

The board is copping a caning atm. Apparently they recieved a hammering from Jim Watts when he reported to the AFL.
Some very nasty "allegations"

Didn't even know he was a Carlton man...does he actually know anything about footy?

I don't know a lot about Deano, other than he was a great batsman, who rubbed Curtley up the wrong way and paid a massive price!

He also has a bit of a reputation as a bit of a trouble maker...wasn't on good terms with selectors (and maybe AB?) after he got the axe from the national team, then fell out with the Victorian administration, and lost the captaincy there.

A bit of a controversial figure...I'm thinking what we need at the moment is stability, integrity and rock solid leadership. Not sure whether the Jones boy can give us that...

Deano is a blue man thru and thru always has been. Dean is a well renowned after dinner speaker throughout Australia, author, sacked comentator, fundraiser for people with cancer and has coached. You would think there is a plenty of positive right there.

Next what are his Business skills ??

Deano played for Carlton Cricket Club and his father before him - Barney Jones, was a great Carlton Captain and Coach. Read a bit of the history of the Carlton Cricket Club.

When we had a Social Club you would see either or both of them at footy matches.

Deano will be hosting the Sunday Sports Show for 3AW for the next few weeks while Clinton and Caro are on holidays. Ring and ask him how passionate a supporter he is.

Caro mentioned today that there are four or five groups working on a challenge to the Board.

Another thing she mentioned was that the Board had spent a six figure sum on freebies for friends to functions. It is OK for the Board Member and partner, but not beyond that.

Caro thought Watts was concerned about board members demanding freebies & wasting money the club can't afford.

wouldnt mind him on the board - was my favourite cricketer when growing up. My impression of him (through the media reports and his media work/interviews of course) is that he has always been a 'straight shooter', prepared to tell it as it is and without worrying too much about who he puts offside. Also fairly capable of putting a positive spin on things. Never heard much about his business exploits though - think it has always been a few books, tours, and other cricket related stuff.

Given his media profile, combativeness - might be a good figurehead as club president? - what would people think about that? - or do you think he would be too controversial?

Like you 4th chicken Dean Jones was one of my all time favourites. We still discuss he expoits on the cricket field, especially the 200 in India, chucking up with severe stomach cramps....and of course the exploits that wouls have followed if it had not been for ACB stupidity.

He would make a great figurehead, but I think controversy would not take long to follow. Too many ifs and buts with Deano as President for mine...at this stage.

It was shit how they treated him for that! Shouldn't have said it but we were all thinking it.

Dane didnt you read my reply. Deano being an ex cricketer/ex commentator knows these blokes. The guy in questions nickname amongst his own teammates is "The Terroist", unfortunately Deano in his own stupidity used the name innocently but in public without contemplating the perception of the uneducated(with the player in question) and ramafications that may and certainly did follow. He has paid a very heavy price for his off the cuff remark.

As for him being president I think we really need someone who is media savvy enough to not put their foot in all the time with tell em how it is. We already had one buffoon and look where that got us.

PS he is my all time favourite cricketer.

That got us a couple of flags ;) - we need to know more about deano's business dealings and perhaps character (in terms of honesty etc). Dont think he would be another elliot.

A bunch of people will be spoken to this week.
It doesnt mean they will be on the board.

What is going to happen is an exhaustive smoking out of Carlton people will be on the cards with an eye for the best candidates.

Should be this week.

Stay tuned.
