Not really. But i don't think he was worth a 1st round pick back then and he certainly isn't worth a 1st round pick in this draft.

If we got pick 23 for him, i'd be happy with that.

it doesn't work exactly like that ... we aren't asking for a rookie pick for Thornton

Agree..if he isnt happy let him go and a 2nd rnder would seem fair considering he probably hasnt lived up to the No 9 pick status..

We wouldn't be in this mess if we'd just got Footydraft do our recruiting
http://www.footydraft.com/category/2004/2004-footydraftcom-mock-draft/

It doesn't matter which pick we used, that's our problem, it's what he's actually worth that the adelaide clubs will be interested in.

Is that something to be excited about? :?

No to Jericho, but yes to Meesen even though he hasn't done anything and justified his selection with pick 8.

He hasn't even cracked it for a game before Maric,

Won't happen.

it is, when he was playing like his first game

the potential in Deluca to become a quality ruckmen is far greater and of more beneficial to us at the moment, who dont have any true ruckmen, that what Russell would bring to ourside.

and i say that as a fan of Russell

Why didn't Wayne Hughes rate him worth drafting with two selections in the 2004 draft?

Or Wood.

He obviously rates Leuenberger as a ruckman so I think it's strange he would overlook Deluca if he's that talented.

We definitely needed a ruckman and a key defender. The ruck stocks were talked up as the best ever - Meeson, Wood, Deluca, Maric.

We got Hartlett ... but the choice of Russell at 9 was particularly mystifying. Maybe if Meeson was still around we would have grabbed him (he went to adelaide with pick 8) but Wood lasted until the end of the first round.

I think Russell will turn out to be a quality player and hope he stays with us. If he really wants to return home we should get properly reimbursed.

People critcise his selection at pick #9 however forget that the next three players picked after him haven't done much yet either i.e. pick #10 - Chris Egan, pick #11 - Adam Thompson, pick #12 - Danny Meyer. Bate will be a very good player however Monfries (pick #14) is too slow IMO.

Who did we have coming through? Ricky Mott?

Was Russell not worthy of pick 9 or is it poor development or is it a bit of both or that he is still young and light :?:

What would the number one pick think if we let Russell walk after two years?

We have more than Russell's signature riding on this if we let Thornton, Russell and perhaps Bower go cheaply.

Hopefully he thinks we want to free up Russell's guernsey number. Obviously it went to the wrong person.

One of the reasons we got him so high was that he was supposedly playing good senior football in the SANFL. Has shown nothing to suggest he is ready yet for the rigours of senior football.
