Membership is through the roof...

Yeah, because we regularly got 50K members in the 80s and 90s when we were actually good.

We were up the top of the membership tables in those days. Us along with Collingwood and Essendon* were miles in front of the rest. Now we are middle of the road. Halford when it comes to football you know a lot about Thomas the Tank Engine.

Raw Numbers vs Placings. Explain to me why we broke 30K 3 years in a row after our first wooden spoon after never doing it beforehand. The club went on the front foot with the whole 'Fight Back' stuff and 4 years on, we're still trailing behind with our ass hanging out of our pants. I'd say we're doing pretty bloody well, comparitively speaking.

Everyone is breaking 30k now though you have to grow with the times. In 10 years time you won't be doing well unless you've got 40k. The pies at that stage will have passed the 50k. We can't afford to be left lagging behind otherwise we'll remain there.

Yep, fair point on that last sentence, Game.

Although I do think you're being a tad presumptuous with the 40k figure - yeah, population increases, but how many new-age (for want of a better word) supporters will buy memberships? Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but remembering teams like the Dogs, Roos etc struggle for 20k at the moment...

Hey Jars, what are the membership stats over the last 15 years or so?

The membership numbers for Carlton over the years can be found here:

AFAIK during the Elliot years our membership numbers were always pretty poor in comparison to Essendon* and Collingwood, also Hawthorn there for a while when they were siging up dead people.

In 96' we had had the record at the time for a Victorian club membership which was just over 23k. Ten years later the filth have taken that mark to over 40k. I see no reason why the trend won't continue.

Big difference mate, very big difference...

...you know, it puzzles me as to how Collingwood get so many members... man, a team of hacks, manys years without holding up a cup *or any kind* - what is it?? To further that, how the hell can the filth supporters afford memberships? Collecting beers cans and selling them for scrap metal?! Rattling tins on Collins St?!

Unfortunately the proportion of population of illiterate, teeth missing, brain dead and colour blind scum is quite high in Australia.
