I have watched this week unfold with some alarm. Players want to leave our club, and we won't let them. What's worse, Sheehan agrees with this strategy.

First an admission, I don't rate Thornton. I think he is petulant, individual, with poor skills, and everythime he gets the ball we are risk of a turnover

As I understand the options are:

1.Trade him - get something from the Hawks or the Roos - a young kid or a pick that leads to a young kid, and let a young experienced player who hasn't come on , and doesn't want to play for Carlton, go.

2.Don't trade him and pick him up in the pre-season draft - pay him $600k for a year and then watch him leave. And meanwhile we get a player infecting the kids with disenchantment.

I won't be cheering him next year - who will be?

I don't understand the philosophy. Why would we want to keep him if he didn't want to be there?

The more likely scenario is that the club will "work" on him over the next 2 month and he will sign.

This morning Chip Legrand (spelling?) from The Australian said that Fev had lunch with Tbird and that he thinks that with the threat of re-drafting or another club taking him before Hawthorn in the PSD he will sign.

According to the journo Tbird is confused and it is his manager that is running the "he is leaving no matter what" line. With a little water under the bridge and "pressure" and "love" from club and players he thinks he will sign now that the club has increased its offer and made it a 3 year deal. My gut feel says this is likely. The club would not be so dismissive towards Hawthorn if they wouldn't be sure they could turn Tbird around.

I think it would be a good outcome as it signals to other clubs that we wont let them just "steal" our young players.

he can just sign as long as he doe it before the PSD and there is long time to go. I am sure he will sign if not traded.

I think you are right.

Thornton would have had a wine spritzer.

... and when Fev got served his meal first, Thornton would have thrown his head back, kicked the ground and yelled out an obscenity.

Thornton re-signing could open up a very satisfying scenario. We take Everitt in PSD then on trade him next year. Hawks get nothing, lose Everitt. Carlton lose nothing gain extra pick next year (won't be much but better than a kick in the head).

I may be wrong, but my understanding is that Thronton has given his manager PoA, and as a result, the manager is saying what he wants to say re Thornton in the PSD. And so he has. That doesn't mean Thornton has to agree with his tactics or his opinion.

McConville will look like an idiot if he can't strike a deal between the Dorks and Carlton.

Hawks already look stupid for offering a rookie listed player $1M, and consider pick 24 to equal $1M when realistically Pick 6 = $1M. What do they say to rest of the 20 players who were selected in the Top 20?

Given Carlton has 2 months to sort this out before the PSD, there's credence in this tactic of Carlton's. I support the stand on him.

I hoped pick #6 for Thornton, and still hope that happens.

Carlton have 2 choices, to trade for pick 24 or not to trade for pick 24. They have to make a call and so be it. I support their better judgement on the issue.

Come on Lions, Roos, lets get it on. I want your first round picks.

Russell = bye bye, so we'll hopefully get a pick in the 20's.

We haven't traded anyone yet. I wonder what sort of bait is out there?

We need to keep the few experienced players we have to maintain some balance.

We need a ruckman, and if the Polak deal with Tigers fall over, who will we take in the PSD?

Thornton
Everitt
Polak

I've done SFA work this week, and have deadlines today....oh well, so much for the deadlines.

You gotta abmit bondi, the amount of work one neglects this week because you sepnd most of your time hunting around for snippets of news and opinion does not justify what you get out of the week. I should've gone hard from Monday to Thursday and just bludged today. Lucky for me my boss is away today. Still I have deadlines to meet... :(

Lucky for me I am the boss.

It's already 28 degrees, and I'm going to the beach. The walker rumour has got me pissed off.

If more boss finds out, I'm going to get a flogging.

I'll be forced to drink 10 scooners/pots after 2pm for punishment.

I've got deadlines and the last day of the AFL trading. F&^%&^& what do I do? Go to the beach for half an hour.
