Sounds like he may have some good 'development' aspects to his coaching.

I appreciate what you are saying Molsey, but most people here see Gavin coming on board as being Trout Mk II. I have no idea on what kind of coach he is, but the fact that he has worked with Pagan before isn't going to sit well with most folk here - after our past performances most are expecting dramatic changes to the coaching panel (i.e Voss) and this appointment is contrary to that expectation. But as you say I will wait on the full coaching panel to be assembled before smacking my head against the wall.

hey here is an idea, lets see the rest and watch how they go and then (regardless of the panel and how we go) you can bag the crap out of the club.

I appreciate that slitting your wrists is a Carlton pastime but low-key appointment doesn't necessarily mean 'yes man'. He's been around the traps, gone back to a senior role in the country and now gets another shot at it.

This is not a statement of support - but how would any of you know if he's good or not?

I dont.
But then again, I dont trust the club to implement a comprehensive search and interview process.

I personally dont know if Paul Hudson is much good but he has huge raps within the under 18 system. He held a development managers role in Gippsland. He created coached local football and joined the Gioppsland Power as coach.
He totally revamped the organisation and created an environment mirroring AFL clubs to make a progressive transition for his players.
He then coached his team to the TAC under 18 premiership.
He is very highly regarded in the area of football development.
Thats what I know.

Like Hudson, I dont personally know Gavin Crosisca.
His resume tells me he was a Pagan assistant at North.
When Pagan moved on he didnt take Crosisca with him. The Kangaroos then sacked him.
He then went to Hawthorn and was sacked.
He then tried to obtain another assistants role and wasnt offered one.
He has since coached North Ballarat.

Which CV appears the best?
Did Carlton interview Hudson or offer the position to Bond or one of the other current assistants?

I'd suggest this doesnt surprise anyone. Its the sort of standards we've set for ourselves now.

And that's the crux of it BV. We rightfully have no trust in our leadership and therefore all decisions appear questionable. What process are they likely to have done? It seems from the outer that it would be short, sweet and limited.

But I understand bigger things are coming and there's a real development focus. At least 1 year too late - 2006 was wasted in so many respects.

but my point is we have other announcements coming and I am strangely confident that on balance the Coaching Staff will look better than this eyar and further will have a development edge. Sounds good if you think about it.

Who knows how long Pagan's going to be the coach? Could be two years, could be one year, could be two months.

Would someone with choices, such as Paul Hudson, come and work under Denis Pagan with the above in mind? Would someone with choices work under a board of directors who (a single Mike Sheahan puff-piece notwithstanding) might not even be there themselves beyond the next few months?

The facts are as plain as the arse on a Mick Malthouse midfielder: right now we're up the creek, and will continue to be up the creek until we demonstrate to the football world that we have something better to offer than the triumvirate of Smorgon/Malouf/Pagan.

It's obvious that our entire management team is terrible. And it's equally obvious that we won't get much better until we sort this out once and for all).

Sorry. I know this thread's about an assistant coach - but I believe that this appointment is symptomatic of a broader issue. The reason why we're not getting Hudson is the same reason why Polak wouldn't put himself into the PSD for us.

I hope you're right Molsey.
The past 3 years have been wasteful in my opinion, not just 06.
....but you are right, we have no control over that now.

We can only look forward and hope the club makes the right decisions. Most supporters would love to have confidence in the club but the apparent reactive nature of their decision making makes it difficult.
If Crosisca was the best candidate from a quality list of interviewees, fantastic.
Unfortunately I doubt that is the case.

What's our next move? Neil Balme as football manager?
