I assumed that was the case. I assume not many board members would know all that much about the players... only stuff people had told them?

I severly doubt the board would tell Hughes to draft Gibbs or any player. I assume Josh meant they were backing Hughes to take any player he wanted and not to allow Pagan to meddle in the choice

or maybe I just saw "Gibbs" and the rest is wishful thinking

And you could just as easily substitute "people on forums" for "board members".

But the issue is it's not up to the board to decide who to draft, regardless of whatever 2nd hand info they've got, and it doesn't matter who they got it from.

But as was said above "who gives a stuff what the board wants?". It's irrelevant...so why complain about the baord wanting Gibbs?

Great news and up all the so- called footy experts on the radio and tv who predicted doom and gloom for Carlton and that we would have to cave in and trade these players. What do they know?

The Club stuck to its guns and said no trade,we want these players. Look what has happened, Thornton knew that in the PSD Essendon* or North would pick him up if Carlton didn't, so guess what he re-signs with us. F**k Hawthorn, they were just trying to stitch us up and got what they deserved. Port Adelaide is the same.

Russell will not go into the PSD (Olerenshaw has already said this) and take the chance of someone else picking him up, so stuff PA. If they were really serious in trying to do a deal (instead of trying to stick it up Carlton) they would have offered Deluca as a trade. Instead they offered the garbage pick 39 and got the response they deserved. Russell will sign in the next few days and be with us for the next 2/3 years. In that time he will either make it we can get rid of him with no worries.
We are back in town.

How do you think it would have looked to Gibbs, Kennedy and Bower etc, plus the interstate clubs if we had rolled over and died on this one, they would have murdered us in the next few years, particularly Adelaide/PA over Gibbs. We have shown we will not be pushed around and the Board and Administration should be congratulated.

Hawthorn (who were trying to pinch Thornton to solve their problems at fullback) got there just response and result and so did PA. Onwards and upwards for Carlton now and the next flag is not that far away.

Best possible news - we keep thornton on board long enough so that any of his kids will be available as f/s selections AND we can trade him to the hawks at a high price next season whilst he is contracted
