Great stuff.... now for the delistings.

Livo and Sporn might not be so thrilled with the re-signing of Thornton and Russell, as it seemingly closes the door on two 'fringe' players who may have had gotten a second (or third) chance on the list if they had moved on. That can only be a good thing.

Just wait till you hear Sporn getting a 1 year deal, as i think out of the players close to the axe, he could survive, as he can play well at times.

Not in the ones he doesn't !

I think you are being pretty unfair to Wiggins. He turned his career around this year and with his leading and marking ability is a useful - and I'm sure very cheap (relatively), hard working player to fill that horrible void we currently have moving the ball from defence to the F50.

http://www.blueseum.org/cfc/tiki-index. ... %20wiggins

Add a fit Fisher and Waite and maybe Pagan's 2006 Plan has enough marking ability to improve our F50 entries?

You need hard working foot soldiers to take the hits and make the play and I think he'll do that. Maybe he'll struggle for a game this year but then again he has some good attributes, including leadership, that the Blues need.

Disagree on that last bit,Maybe he'll struggle for a game this year, the club wouldn't gave him 2 years,if they don't think he can hold a spot in the 22 for most of the year.

They gave Teague 2 years.

Did you see the last two games of the year? Granted it was only two games, but he was amongst our best in each of them (with 17 and 22 possessions respectively)... and you could argue that he has struggled with a lack of opportunity in recent times.

I'll eat humble pie right now. I was devastated after the end of trade week, I thought we had finally completely lost the plot. But give the club credit they have come through and I'm thrilled with the sign ups...not sure about Wiggins though but while I'm being humble I'll just leave it at that...go blues 2007

Admittedly I have been neither here nor there when it comes to The Wiggler.

If you were looking for a recipe for giving a guy like Wiggins confidence then a 2 year deal at this stage of his career is the way to do it.

Wiggins was fantastic in a number of matches this year (had 20-25 touches on 5 occasions) and never gives less than 100%. He showed on at least a couple of occassions that when things fall into place and he's given an appropriate job he's valuable. I like the idea of him on a forward flank pushing up to the wing or having a spell in the centre every now and then. We need a serious rotation and Wiggo can certainly play a role as the 10th or 11th midfielder.

Mate totally agree, you've converted me, and that half where he played a blinder as a leading forward was when I thought this was the point he turned it right around.

Pagan loves him too. Has great visions of Wiggler for 2007.

He'll be in the starting 22. He's already pushed out his rivals; they'll all be delisted in 2006-7. He's got his position. Someone has to take it off him.

Finished 2006 strongly then got injured and operated on. He'll be right.

Probably a late developer.

Good mark, and good long kick. Bleeds for the jumper and isn't burning a hole in our pocket. Good value for money.

Just improve the disposal and stop panicking, because they only cause clangers.Again stop the panic! Just get fitter and faster over the preseson and train like you play till you get that disposal spot on is my advice.

Strong body player, but FFS keep those elbows down. Sacrifices his body for the jumper like Hickmott did; and wouldn't we want some of that type of grunt back!! We haven't had a 24 yo grunt machine since Ratten, Hulme and Brown.

He may be the diamond in the pre Walker drafts. I hope so.

For now, I am now a believer. Well done Wiggles, you earned it.

For the sake of the club and more importantly for the sake of Simon Wiggins it is really imperative that he becomes a 200 game player so at least we can salvage something from the wreckage of the 2000 draft.

No questioning Wiggins committment.

Good thinking Russell....what were you thinking.

Foolish flutter. You nearly tarnished your name forever.

Now go out there and become a Carlton player, and show some loyalty to the jumper, and make something of yourself.

Keep your eyes on the ball, and the midfield is there for the taking.

Carlton will make you, not you make Carlton. Seize the opportunity to make a name for yourself.

Remember Champion premiership players look better and are regarded more highly in the Football world when they wear a Carlton jumper; not Teal.

Wake up and live the dream.

Good Luck!!

Go Blues

And one of the biggest incentives of all - another 89 games to have your name stencilled on the locker underneath John Nicholls and Greg Williams.

What was he thinking?

If anyone thinks that our brilliant past isn't a powerful tool have got rocks in their head. This is the greatest club in football's in history. The kids should have that drummed into them from day 1 and never cease.

Now isn't their a preacher in the house that can help these kids with their journey to blue heaven salvation.

The last three days have been a huge turning point for our club. The trade period now looks like a success even though we didn't participate. We must go hard for a name player in the PSD.

I have to give the administration a tick on this one.

WHilst our stance at trade week was rather defensive (at least that's what it looked like from the outside), I'm wondering whether this was a lost opportunity to get as many picks inside the top 30 (say 5 to 6 picks, given the strength and depth of this draft) that sets the future onfield success well into motion. - not inferring Thornton or Russell should have been traded.
The next few years will tell the story, and boy, our last 3 to 4 picks must count for plenty if we are to make significant ground on 15 other clubs.

Here's hoping.

Thornton, Russell were not the players to use to try and gain some extra draft picks for.

We should have had the guts and nerve to try Stevens, Whitnall, Houlihan as bait to trade our way and get extra picks in the top 20 of this draft.
