two me there are two issues.

a) an idea - for or against - an idea, opinion, is positive.

b) attacks on other posters, the club, the coach, the board - almost always negative.

Molly,

It was interesting that we both independantly came up with the same theory. I reckon there is a kernel of truth to it.

TC is beyond the point where it is just a small group of people chatting amongst themselves. The numbers I posted in the first post are from the site's traffic stats, those numbers mean that TC has a really substantial reach into the Carlton supporting community.

People might not feel like they are part of the media when regularly posting here but the fact is now we all are.

If you watched a lot of the media that Pagan did in the second half of the year at different times it was almost as if he was directly answering the concerns expressed on TC, but with a 4-6 week lag.

The lag to me would be a good indication of the information making its way to both the reporters asking the questions and the coaching staff with origins at TC and then friend talking to friend so that after several weeks the information filters out through the 'real' world and the broader carlton community.

I noticed that too and commented on it at the time but unfortunately as Molly points out it appeared to be lipservice at best. No point talking up a storm and then giving yourself an excuse not to follow through.

If the behaviour changes because of what happens in here then it's another reason to wield the axe.

I want a coach and a board who have a vision - not a coach and a board who are forever reactive. It might be a step up from inactive but it's certainly not proactive. We shouldn't be paying $600K to someone to tell us what we want to hear and then doing otherwise.

Sorry to sound so "negative".

I don't mind the axe coming out, looking forward to it in fact.

I just don't like the supporters being beaten over the head with the axe handle hundreds and hundreds of times. Most of us are clever enough to get the message after only one or two hits.

We're on the same page here Jars. :-D

I like seeing both sides of the story. There's plenty of upside to most of the negativity around here. In others words there's a lot of positive that can be gained from much of the negativity on this site(if that makes sense). For this reason I welcome the negativity as well!

The negativity serves a positive purpose!

This site would be boring as hell without the negativity. The site would also be less-informed without it.... people's heads would be stuck in the sand!

However there comes a certain point when the amount of negativity reaches a saturation point esp. when it's just the same thing repeated ad nauseum.

When that saturation point is reached, the negativity no longer has a positive effect.... it starts to have a negative impact.

I think these boards are fantastic.

I have always felt that the average member/supporter is extremely under represented as a stakeholder in the football community as a whole.

Whether it be to the decision makers and flower at AFL Commission level (I couldnt resist that gibe 8) ) the decision makers and ultra-dickheads at AFL Administration leve (I really couldnt resist that gibe  ) and at Club level (I will give these guys a bit of respite for the time being 8) ).

Where does the average member/supporter get to voice his concerns about the game they love (and love to hate).

In the media on talkback (yeah right).

These boards represent a teriffic opportunity and it appears that some boards and some posters opinions are being taken on board by the decision makers.

At the very least we can set agendas and get them discussed - without waiting on the whims of Mike Sheahan, Caroline Wilson and Fatprick Smith.

The majority of the "swing" supporters , those whos support is hanging by a knifes edge probably wouldnt give a crap of what was written on here.

It been called having your head in the sand , rightly/wrongly most of these supporters do , in the sense that if carlton win some more games or play better on the field then they will stick by the team/club, we perform poorly they drop off. New board, coach, tuckshop lady, social club structure, fan forum wont make a difference to these people.

Your average supporter couldnt name you the board members, couldnt care who the coach is, couldnt care whos running for election, couldn't tell you what talkingcarlton is.

We are the minority, we are the obsessed and i agree to an extent that we should be trying to send a positive message to the "swingers" but this is reality and it may seem a bit defeatist but i still dont think whats written here will make a difference to your average "swinging" supporter.

Its unfortunately human nature to be misinformed , the ol out of sight out of mind , she'll be right attitude. Its why guys like howard and bush are still in power - the misinformed just stick with the norm - but thats getting off track.

Until we play better and win games we will lose supporters , and most supporters dont care how that happens , as long as it does - hell most carlton "supporters" couldn't name you more than 10 players on our list , as frustrating as that is for us - its reality.

argue away i say ( constructively of course ) we obsessed people need to see both sides of the story

I'm sure the wider Carlton supporting community are interested in these regular bitching sessions too.

Great thread Jar. Notice a few identities are remaining silent.

Last week was the start of the comeback of the great Carlton Football Club. Remeber them everyone?

16 premierships, Navy Blue jumper, History of success

Let's build the bandwagon! Who's on? I want to hear from you!!!

Popeye,

Hope so but with Smorgon, Pagan, and Malouf remaining the key figures at the club we are going no where. As soon as those 3 clowns are removed we will be right.

lol.
I liked the start of this thread. It has degenerated.
But hey. Carlton will come back. We are just impatient.
We love em, it will just take some time.
Oh yeah. Sign up for a membership.
You know your real friends and supporters are those who will support you at your lowest ebb. Show your support for the mighty CFC. We have a payment plan! It is painless and can easily fit in any budget. Well that all depends on what membership you want. Country supporters also dont think that membership is not for you because you dont live in Marvellous Melbourne. I live in Wollongong and recently got on the interstate membership. $9 a month. geez im poor as and can afford that. Its two less drinks a month! Save me some gym time too! I'm going to sign up my housemate, he doesnt watch AFL but i can give up an extra 2 drinks a month for him to start taking an interest. Go Blues!

I'm disapponited Jarusa, I reckon you could have signed off the initial post with a pitch along the lines of the most positive thing you could do would be to contribute to the Blueseum! ;)

Sometimes, when leadership is entrenched, it takes revolution to force change.

Just take a look at history.

btw Jarusa, the difficulty with site and server stats is identifying unique (i.e. individual) users. Typically, this is only attempted on daily stats, as the amount of log data which needs to be filtered to manage accurate figures over longer time periods (say a month) is huge, and requires a large amount of processing (I worked on monitoring exactly this, and other stats, for a major ISP in my previous life over the last 6 or so years, to get estimates of unique vists and user login patterns, along with monitoring site performance and server farm traffic distribution, and other measures, for QA purposes).

The main difficulty is in matching unique users to IP addresses, as well as site login stats, which may or may not be able to distinguish between single and multiple unique visits per day.
