Yep.

 Bit scary.

In total university played 126 games, their last 16 games were all losses, so in total those 27 wins and 2 draws were it.

So that means if we don't win more than 3 of the first 16 games next year our record over the last 126 games will be equal to or worse than what University managed for their time in the VFL.

Yeah but if we win more than 4 out of 22 next year we will miss out on Kreuser and pick #2.

Well what did you expect Jarusa? Positive? Comparing us to University; is that fair? Positive? Negative? What do you think? 100 years ago...with a club that is extinct!!

I think we've been conned into negativity, depression and doom.

I'll challenge you Jarusa.

What records stand over 110 games that give a gloomier result than the one you raised? There's plenty...but no hints.

The positive thing to take out of this is:

a positive Jarusa brought to our attention...

On a brighter note I just had a look and from about 1991 to 1995 Sydney only had something like 19 wins out of 110 games, they went on to play in the Grand Final in 1996.

So all is not lost.

Ah I feel better....and to add to that...Carlton are a bigger brand, with a bigger supporter base, a bigger membership, a bigger history, more flags, more games, more champions, more finals appearences, more better in every way than that lot...and definetely have the potential to achieve our former glory moreso than University ever did. Isn't that right?

Watch this space.

Swans also got Barassi, then Eade to get themselves out of the sh1t after they wouldn't play for Buckenara. Things changed pretty quickly. No such luck for us yet.

Absolutely bondiblue. :-D

I was reading a recent book earlier today about the 1945 bloodbath grand final and the University stat was in it. I thought to myself 'I bet Carlton have not done much better than that in the last 5 years', unfortunately I was right.

For those 5 years of pain we have been 'gifted' at the most 4 stars (Walker, Murphy, Kennedy and No 1 this year). Does not seem like adequate compensation somehow.

... and as well as poor performances the start of WWI was the thing that really killed off University as a VFL club.

I don't entirely agree. For all the pain in the 5 years, we've got a star in the name of Fevola too. He's been the mortar which is providing the bonding for our new young playing group.

But isn't that the record we wanted to have????

Maybe both records were a result of the same thing...

BTW - University were known as "The Students"... and sometimes "The Professors"

I take it that they didn't have an 'official' title then?
