Good to see you posting here River Rat, great admirer of your work on CSC, look forward to much good info from training and the VFL firsts and ressies

Welcome from me too, RR. BTW, it was me who dubbed you the Rodent, remember? :P

Thanks for the welcome and special thanks for the naming suggestion BB. :)

Deluca is the interesting one.At times he is the most useless footballer god ever invented. His prelim game for the Ants was so bad even the Carlton players on the other side of the fence watching were laughing at how shit he was. Yet he can all of a sudden do something amazing and you say shit. He is quick and can be good. If I was Pagan I would be saying to "two grabs" you will only survive 2008 and beyond if you deliver in the ruck.

I often think of Geoff Leek played Essendon* in the 60s when watching Deluca play. In his first few years was nowhere near as athletic as Deluca and was taken off in the 3 or 4 quarter every week

BUT HE DEVELOPED INTO ONE OF THE VFL TOP RUCKMEN AS HE MATURED

I think there are too many shortsighted posters that cannot see the potential that could be developed with patience. Big men take time to develop You cannot pick up a top quality ruck in the draft

I prefer to look ahead to what his potential could be after a few more years experience.

Goes to show you can't please all of the people all of the time. In my books I am pleased that the Club is making large changes to the list. At times like this you may cut someone who goes on to play with another Club but I doubt from my own limited VFL watching in 2006 that these 2 will do that.

3 more delistings and a pretty open list for refilling with multiple late speccy picks or a second PSD choice given our salary cap availability.

Bring it on ... though we need to leave a few to flick next year, too.

I will never forget a moment during the 2006 season where De Luca jumped for and uncontested mark...He got a hand onto the ball however lost the ball in mid air.....when he was looking for the second grab the ball knocked him on the top of the head......

Swing the axe and put some of the players and long suffering supporters out of their misery.
We are the bottom team with back to back spoons....you wont ever get a better reason to cut players especially with a strong draft to refill the list with...

I remember another incident where he fumbled an uncontested mark around our forward 50 mark - inadvertently knocked it a few metres closer to goal & took the second grab in a better position. My mate & I looked at each other & laughed 'cos it reminded us of when Bradley did a similar thing, but Bradley actually did it on purpose.

Yeah but the umpire brought Bradley back about 20 metres.

Batson was so far down the list as a ruckman he was mainly played at FF in the Ants ressies. Aisake went past him like a shot and he is still learning the game.

For someone who was struggling in the VFL reserves, how then did he come second in the league goal kicking and fourth in the league best and fairest. Batson played forward mainly because when he went into the ruck the bullants had no goal kicking options forward

Denis gives him a 2 year contract and now i have my doubts....
