Agree. But if his back is ok i'd keep Davies. I'd rather we delist Mclaren.

Rumour has it Saddington's knee is gone, rumour also has it Davies back is gone. If so why keep them, pay them out and bring in the kids.

PS: Still no confirmation that the delistings have stopped :-D

What a surprise. Does anyone know who has the final say on trades? Is it Pagan or WH?

Longmuire, Chambers, Saddington...

Can't knock out too many more. We have only so many draft and PSD picks. Otherwise we'll be having picks no.s 100+. Maybe we're promoting a few rookies.

Ideally 8 - 10 Delistings + French Retiring are what we need Jim

We have 6-7 Draft Pics 2-3 Rookie Elevations 1 PSD

That means the Ideal situation is 9-11 Changes to the list and this is the year to do it

Need to promote 2-3 of Flint / Jackson / Aisakie

So far List numbers
Sporn - Senior delist
Longmuir - Senior delist
chambers - Senior delist
Prender - Senior delist
Magrath - Senior delist
Livingston - Senior delist
French - Retired
Baston -Rookie
Smith - Rookie

Ideally 2-3 more - Davies / Teague / ?

Pick 100 doesn't mean the 100th player. You will find alot of clubs will start passing around the 60 mark which gives us first crack at 2-3 players + PSD + 1st rookie pick.

4 more gone gives us 9 selections. Jacko a swap for French and 1 left for PSD.

A career that closely followed Carlton's fortunes over the last 2 seasons. Full of promise at the start of 2005 but then it all went pear shaped.

How many more of Denis' 'Im a good judge' top up recruits are there???.. and how many of those will survive more than one more year...

By the way is our CHB Saddington still on the list???

Is that about 20 mature aged recruits gone down the gurgler yet???

Only Scotland and Stevens will survive.. so what does that say about Denis and judgement?

Hey Synbad,

I think that is a bit harsh. I am by no means a Pagan fan, in fact I am pretty sure that he should have gone by now, but the picking of mature age players is always going to be a gamble. I thought Chambers could have been anything, he was dynamite on the track but just couldn't get the pill under pressure and I remember when he first came to the club and all of the critics were singing his praises in the pre-season about how great he was going and Denis actually said that we should not get too carried away with things as it is football, not the Olympics and Chambers was yet to prove himself on the ground. I suspect that he always had doubts that he could make things happen on the field.

As for the others, well they are yet to prove themselves but they are not getting a game in the firsts anyway, so it is not stopping young kids from getting a game.

I think that there are a lot of reasons to go after Pagan, but recruitment of older players is not one of them. I think that under the circumstances we are doing the best with what we have.

That is not to say that they shouldn't be delisted now, just that it was worth a go at some stage.

When we salivate about who is going to come our way in the pre-season draft then we are really working ourselves up for disappointment. I would like to know if there has ever been a genuine champion swap clubs through the pre-season draft.

The first year was understandable.
The subsequent years sent us back to the stone age.

Chambers? Longmuire? McLaren?Saddington?

Lets not forget we also tried to get Spriggs and Knobel.... oh and Gardiner...

We are meant to have faith in the blokes leading the club...

If they cant get anyone good.. dont get anyone at all.

We have an average list and we keep adding more average players to it.

I always say " if you have a bucket of shit and you go out and find another bucket of shit you have a bigger bucket of shit.."

The days when Denis had a core of stars to add peripheral players around are over.
We need to build a base.. and when we have a base blokes like Chambers Longmuir would do ok..

Much like Manton Clape and Pierce did in 95.. but we already had the SOS the Koutas the Christous the Deans Braddleys williams etc....

Thats the difference...
Denis just treated later picks with contempt!!!.. and then he complains about not having early picks and how "noone will ever know....cry cry.. excuse..."

I love early picks too... but we could have had a McQualter or a Danyle Pearce ......

Look clubs have taken players thru the psd in a take it or leave it scenario.

Heath Black.
Aaron Hamill
Fraser Gehrig
Luke McPharlin

Youre meant to use the system to leveredge the best possibledeal for your club...and if youre lucky you might just get a Stevens...

Personally, I think it is a very valid reason to be frustrated with Pagan. No one is questioning the success rate of drafting recycled players, I actually think our poor success rate is to be expected with retreads.
Its the actual philosophy that I find perplexing.
We were in a rebuilding phase. We were'nt close to a flag or a near contender. Why then would you top up your list?

IMO, we didnt have the guts to do the hard yards and looked for the easy option.
As for the retreads not keeping the kids out of the side. Thats only half the equation. We could have more kids pushing through or even demanding spots in the side if we'd truly embraced rebuilding instead of giving lip service.

I think the plan was fairly obvious. We tried to replace our missing generation (several years of draft picks given or taken away, or wasted) with players we hoped could make us competitive until fresh talent emerged.
Carlton supporters have been spoilt by success and I think there was a real concern that they wouldn't tolerate rolling over for a couple of seasons to stockpile picks. Of course, not only have we picked up so many second-chance players, we have been spectacularly unsuccessful in choosing targets, so the end result is we have simply prolonged the misery.

Well rumour has it Davies didn't play a game all year, and Saddingtons knee injury ended his season. Funny that.
