That's very short sighted on Smorgon's behalf then, because a good CEO would turn things around and make him look good. If there isn't improvement soon then it won't matter who he surrounds himself with, he'll be gone anyway.

Smorgon needs every ally he can get atm.
He'll use Malouf for his own purposes then spit him out like an old chewy.

I am happy for better candidates to come forward... as long as they don't knife everyone along the way. It's time our club built some bridges across the factions. We are all striving for the common good aren't we? Let's not let too many egos get in the way... we have had that problem in the past.

Amazing that a club in our position over the last couple of years with the types of achievements we have attained can have one change at coaching level and one for our fitness and confitioning bloke and thats it.

Things must be going beautifuly at Carlton after that very comprehensive analysis of the footy club eh???

And you look at that... you look at how this footy club has been compromised to the AFL by the people making the decisions as and then you look at how we have been trekking and you can see why there are people that are completely fed up with the lack of backbone around this footy club...

Pathetic !!!.. and thats why were going shithouse!!!... im not talking about the ladder... im talking about EVERYTHING!!!..... (another million dollar loss???) well how we will pay that 1.5 mill back to the AFL in 12 months???...

Oh well.. its all going dandy...!!!... sign everyone up again.... everyone is doing brilliantly...

Jim Wilson strikes again:

Malouf safe as we all have read or heard, but the board is still divided and heads will role. I think the possible sneaky leakers are being dwindled down each news article.

Valmorbida won an election.

Why is he the one that will be foreced to step down???

Smorgon is just continuing to try and shore things up for himself...

Dead man walking....

just remember one thing... Brown has what he wants.. he has destabilised Pagan and left the mechanism in place for Pagan to fall away easily.

-Thanks Smorgon.

-The squeaky sneakers are not Valmorbida .. but they stay... but the vice president who won an election last year is being asked to go.. tsk tsk tsk...
Now what is MArcus Rose's worth at board level if youre going to chop someone???

Bruce is going to step down at December as he has other priorities...
Youll probably find Valmorbida will also....

And that makes the board smaller like Smorgon wanted... and then there is an election....

-Sticks is safe...
-Gleeson has the backing of a few people...
-The social club guy has a few allies.

-Not too sure where Lee sits in all this but he is VERY QUIET for a president wannabe..

Now Marcus Rose, Simon wilson(aka the invisiblem men), Lorraine diggins(in charge of the number 5 jumper) and Graeme Smorgon(My dad was never president but i was)... hmmmmmmmmmm

It's a yoyo board. Collins wanted to reduce the number of people on the board, Smorgon adds people to the board, and now he wants to make it smaller.

It's a similar story to the removal of paying for memberships by the month. The do it, realise they stuffed up and then re-add it.

I agree Steve.

When the democratic process is being manipulated, it makes me feel very uneasy.
This is John Elliottesque democracy.
Invite on the board members you want and then decrease the size of the board by limiting the candidates that are member elected.
Then you force out the people who disagree with you. :?

As for the AGM, I understand that Collo wanted it pushed back in 2002 so the books could be analysed but continuing to hold it in March is holding the voting members in contempt.
Carlton has more factions and political placements than the Labor party.

Our club needs an enema.

Well he was meant to do it on the first day of this financial year (From the horses mouth ) now.. imagine if he has a bit of a think about things.. and he realises the others are all standing around waiting .. even EXPECTING him to lay the egg... but theyre doing FA themselves.. maybe that has given him second thoughts....???..............................................

As for the bigger vs smaller board debate.

You want a bigger board when you want fresh blood onto a board via elections if the current board is shithouse.. if you have a good small board then you keep it that way.

The problem with bananas (apart from being way too expensive at the moment ) is that they think theyre good.. and dont understand that if there are a handfull of bananas on a board it does not equate to a good board....

Smorgon might think he , Sticks. Simon Wilson , Marcus Rose and one or two others is the perfect board.... but theyre not... !!!...

Board support for Blues CEO
2:14:37 PM Wed 25 October, 2006
Sportal for carltonfc.com.au

The Carlton board has reaffirmed its support for the club's chief executive Michael Malouf.

In a media release on Wednesday, Carlton president Graham Smorgon said: "The position of the CEO was reviewed as part of our overall review of the operations of the club and I am pleased to confirm that Michael Malouf has been strongly supported by the board."

"Michael has provided outstanding leadership in his role as CEO since he joined the club from the Melbourne City Council in July 2003, the toughest period in the history of the Carlton Football Club.

"During this time he has managed some of the biggest decisions in the club's history and has implemented a business plan that has provided the platform to rebuild the Carlton Football Club as we go forward."

Malouf doesnt have the full support of anyone apart from Smorgon.. as Smorgon was the man who appointed him in the first place. Smorgon sees any overtures of overthrowing Malouf as destabilisation to his own presidency. (He looks like a dill ) but no matter how they shore things up for themselves its all going to come down soon...

Spot on...... from who i was told they (most board members) share the same thought and is only there because of Sticks and Smorgo.

Sticks is becoming the key man with conections to those who are contemplating a challenge, current board members bow to Sticks commands.

And as I have said on a number of occasions now, Kernahan is the common denominator in all of this...in everything that's gone on (hopelesly) since the Elliott days.

Kernahan was a champion player, is a champion of the Club, and his blood is navy blue, but his performances at both Board level and on the footy department have unfortunately been hopeless. Yet he controls just about everything down there.

I've actually voted against him in both the elections he has stood in (the Elliott v Collins election, and last year's), but clearly I was in the minority. But I stand by my belief that he has to vacate his position on the Board.

Doesn't he have to soon under the rules that Collins brought in?

Can't a board member only stand for re-election a certain number of times?

I seem to remember reading a while back that they were going to try to change the constitution so that he could remain on the Board. Typical.

You dont get rif od Sticks.. you have to look at the credibility alot of people above him give him.

elliot made him captain of the century and his right hand man..

collo kept him on the board as he was too popular to get rid of (mistake was giving him a job like chairman of selectors)

Wins an election in a landslide and drags Valmorbida over the line with him as he bolted himself onto Sticks.

Sticks then becomes a co vice president. ... shoring up Smorgon as Sticks doesnt want presidency.. (wouldnt know what to do with it)

Makes a deal with smorgon and adds some muscle to a weak president...until someone else wrestles the remote from Smorgon.. Which will happen.. because Sticks is part of the furniture he is always Carlton... the others come and go....so still being there Sticks will 'help out' the next bloke thats at Carlton.. thats Sticks...
