Way to kick/bag a player before he's even signed with the Blues - sure everybodys got their own stupid reasons why he'll be a complete flop for us, but it's been less than a day that this has been announced and suddenly all you negative buggers are tripping over each other to post some drivel regarding Ackland... at least give him a chance, a single game - heck, even a Pre-season match before you start deriding the fella as the newest hack at the club!

*Cameron Cloke though? Different story :-D *

Heaven help me I'll drag the derogatory posts back up when this season is over and Big (well 196cm big) Cain Ackland has torn up the AFL... :P

I'm willing to give him a chance.

I think he'll be far better than McLaren, but I do a have a query over his height. 196cm, for mine, isn't ruckman height.

In fact, unless you are Jeff White, anything under 200cm isn't ruck height for mine.

As I said, I'm willing to give him a chance.

Cain will be fine....dont you worry about him....

he will do better than what a lot of people think and it will be interesting to see if they retract their statements....

but hey, it could always work like lance, he's had a great year and won the best and fairest but he is just a slow footballer without a position.

there will be doomsayers for EVERY decision we make. we could sign Judd, Goodes, Scarlett, Tredrea and Coz and certain people would still find something to crack the shits about....unfortunately you give these people a forum to complain on and they take every inch...

just ignore them, it's kind of like ignoring the whirring of the fluorescent lights, except the lights arent as annoying.

so bnz you happywith 196cm ruckmen?

Think this will help us get to the finals? Or do you see him as a stop gap until a real ruckman comes along?

i think he deserves a chance before we bag the crap out of him...after a season as a carlton player....we see what he is made of then at least we can express our anger at the club for taking him justifiably then.

i see it more as a stop gap, he had more hitouts last year than any of our back ups and the year before had more than french, is more mobile than french and DOMINATED french this year. he is pluses all over french so i really dont see how it is a backward step.

i think people will be surprised when he plays in navy blue.

Aisake will be our next top ruckman, it is clear as day, but he needs support from someone who has been there, he now has that.

Great post sparkyblue.

Can't believe the amount of whinging going on.

The only people whe have the right to be pissed off are those that wanted Luenberger as the number 1 pick. They have a fair argument saying we should have drafted Lewi and left Cain out of it.

Everyone else should stop their whinging. If you want Gibbs (as I do) Hanson or even Selwood then picking up Ackland is good recruiting ...

1) He's at least as good if not better than what we've got now.
2) There is no-one else worth taking in the psd.
3) Who else is going to take the brunt of the big bodied ruckman going around? Waite? yeah let's give him a few more injuries, Whitnall? He doesn't have enough to do. Or perhaps we should throw Teague against them, he's just lingering in the ressies.

Now we've got Ackland to share the duties and put pressure on McLaren and Bryon. Maybe it will help bring some decent footy out of one of them. Maybe not, but there is NOTHING TO LOSE ... and that's good business.

Signed,
Ackland's mother

My point exactly mate... and yes, criticism is always welcome (as it is one of the thing that makes a forum a forum) - all I'm saying is give the guy a game before bagging him relentlessly!

Curious, how tall is Aisake?? I'm guessing he still has a 'lil bit of growing to do yet as well... haven't seen/heard much of him so I'm a bit in the dark about his potential.

And yeah bnz, remember the match against the Saints - Ackland complete towelled up French...

Everyone else should stop their whinging. If you want Gibbs (as I do) Hanson or even Selwood then picking up Ackland is good recruiting - Great so our recruiting policy is recruit shit so we get to use our number 1 pick properly? (and I want Hansen)

1) He's at least as good if not better than what we've got now. - this one astounds me, at least as good so poor is good if it matches the poor you already have?
2) There is no-one else worth taking in the psd. - so take him for a 3 year deal because there is no-one else - not even a kid?
3) Who else is going to take the brunt of the big bodied ruckman going around? Waite? yeah let's give him a few more injuries, Whitnall? He doesn't have enough to do. Or perhaps we should throw Teague against them, he's just lingering in the ressies. - Umm McLaren was recruited as a ruckmen, Bryan was too and then there is Deluca, you know those 3 you think Cain might be at least as good as.

Now we've got Ackland to share the duties and put pressure on McLaren and Bryon. Maybe it will help bring some decent footy out of one of them. Maybe not, but there is NOTHING TO LOSE ... and that's good business. Nothing to lose, and nothing to gain which means for 3 years here is another player on our list that adds nothing.

Aisake is 201cm. He's 21, so probably no more growing for him.

I made the call late last night, while pissed off my nut, to a couple of TCers that I (if memory serves) "like" Ackland.. and thought he might surprise a few.

In the cold light of sobriety, I'll stand by that.
