Am I the only Carlton supporter who, whilst going through a miserable time of late (5 years to be exact) is so thankful that the only successful teams in that period have been the interstate ones????? I mean, could we have stomached a Pies, Dons, Cats etc era at a time when we're on our knees. As far as I'm concerned the flag can go anywhere it bloody well likes outside Victoria until we rebuild ourselves as a force to be reckoned with. Just remind supporters of Collingwood, StKilda, Doggies, Cats, Tigers and Demons that when they were on their knees, we were playing off in Grand Finals and winning some as well.
Thankfully, they've not been making hay while the sun shines and their window of opportunity is closing on them by second.
A special mention to all those moronic Collingwood and StKilda supporters who get stuck into Carlton on SEN
StKilda - 30 seconds of perusing your history(10 seconds might even be enough) will put to bed any argument about where you guys stand in the scheme of things
Collingwood - 1, yes 1 flag in almost 50, yes that's 50 years. Eddie can buy you the AIS to train in, Eureka Towers to live in, and a personal Jumbo to fly around in but what the supporter covets more than anything else is about as far from your reach as it is from ours. The Kangas who barely have a schilling to scrape together and facilities reminiscent of Stalag 17 have won two flags since your last one
YEAH WE'RE DOING IT HARD AT THE MOMENT, AND SOME OF US ARE ON EDGE WITH EACH OTHER, BUT WE'RE CARLTON AND LIKE A PHOENIX, WE WILL RISE FROM THE ASHES

Yep, thought about it a couple of months ago.

The fact that interstate teams have been dominating while we have been down is good, if other victorian teams`were winning premierships the drift of memberships away from carlton would have been much greater.

The debt we owe Brisbane is, IMHO, unpayable. Image, if it hadn't been for them, we'd have had to put up with an Essendon* premiership, and TWO Collingwood flags. Nightmare.

God bless the banana benders!

not much fun when you live in WA ...

and to make matters worse - a fair percantage of those Eagles and Dockers supporters were probably Carlton supporters before the WA sides came into being too....

Great post 99Prelim was thinking the same thing that i prefer a interstate dominance over a Pies or Bomber success. This is the best oppertunity of our Vic Rivals like the Bombers and Pies to get some success while we been floundering down the bottom..

Would be great that once we back in the hunt we get a Premiership before either the Pies and Bombers especially after all shit we have copped from them in the past couple of years.

how ironic if we got the prize after all we have been through would be sweet justice i reckon.

Unfortunately the AFL are doing their utmost to give Collingwood the prize. Again, minimal interstate games and all those consecutive G and Dome games to finish the season. Very wrong in a ridiculously unfair competition.

Go Blueboys!

Siegfried, you cannot have spoken more gospel truth if you had tried. I found myself following the Lions as my second team during that period 2002-2005. What they did for Carlton was priceless. Imagine Collingwood on 15 or 16 flags and Essendon* on 17. I shiver at the thought

Wolfe, I honestly believe (and don't ask me to give you a rational explanation) that we will at least contest a flag before the Pies or Bombers. Once Buckley, Rocca, Burns and Clement go, they're in for some lean years and Essendon* just keep putting the PR spin on their chances for the following year but I don't buy it. They're an ordinary side who are wasting their picks on ex Carlton hacks

always been my way of looking at the situation. While there are a couple of other Vic teams I wouldn't mind seeing win a flag, I'm quite happy for it to go interstate rather than to Collingwood, Essendon*, St Kilda, Richmind, Hawthorn, Kangaroos, Melbourne

I've always maintained that if we can't win the flag then it should go as far away from us as possible.

I'd rather any interstate team win it over Collingwood, Essendon* et al.

Good post 99prelim......

The other positive is that - assuming you believe in the "premiership window" philosophy, then in say 5ish years time when we will be in the Top 8 - perhaps some of the interstate teams will be having lean years.

Therefore.......we may not have to travel interstate for finals matches.

Obviously they won't all drop at the same time, but just look at Brisbane....they have to fall sooner or later.

However, if Colingwood stumble, as they will almost inevitably do, they weill have no excuse, either. So it's a double-edge sword for them.

As long as there are no more Sydney premierships.

Hit the nail on the head: if Collingwood could ever consider a greater armchair ride, then they should change their name to "rover" and hang around when Justin Madden wins the taps. Or maybe Big Nick. The service these guys gave their smalls was the only case I can think of better than the AFL are giving the Pies. If they were fair dinkum, then at least they could aknowledge it.

Can't disagree here either. The B*mbers have far too high an opinion of themselves and it blinds them to their own shortcomings. May they have it for much longer yet.
The Pies are reliant on their oldsters, especially their defence and leadership cadre. If an injury or 2 were to appear here, then they would return to the lower echelons very quickly.

I think once Clement or Presti goes then they will return to the 2004/05 years
