Australia got what they deserved by playing that tempo crap in a game where our round ball skills don't lend us to playing possession football. Sheedy is a prize f#$k and by instructing the players to do this should take the full blame for the loss.

Cast your mind back to the 90s and it was actually Essendon* who first introduced the keepings-off style of play. It was against us at the MCG as they tried to run down the clock by chipping it back constantly. Wallace took it to another level but eveyrbody forgets Sheedy pioneered this rubbish.

Sry the game but i cant agree with ur analysis both teams were hitting after the ball all day not just irish ( by the end of match the crowd thought hitting after the ball must be legal in this code :-D ). Being at the match thought it was quite a good match after half time. none of the overly phsyical stuff from last year but there was still few scuffles started in equal measure from both sides. there was also quite a few good phsyical legal hits from both sides. Didnt see match on tv but at match there was very good atmosphere in ground. bit of strange decision to leave Fev out but simmo/lappin were very good. Tadhg was BOG IMO mark on own goal line in 3rd quarter was excellent. Series is nicely poised for croker test where open spaces should suit ye guys down to the ground

Agree that both sides went in hard and there wasn't too much which was untoward. The Irish guys flagged their intentions early and hit the contest hard but from what I saw it was all totally fair.

Good game ... Australia undone by their own tactics in the closing minutes.

Bring on game 2 with Fev in the forward line!

I think it's fair too as long as we're allowed to do the same. Just because we are stronger and hit harder shouldn't mean we should be penalised. If Barry Hall dished out what he was receiving there would have been a few going off in stretchers.

It went beyond bumping and hitting last series it was hateful rubbish and watching it was embarrasing.

This first game this year was much more watchable. Maybe there are no huge bumps because we can't catch the quick buggers?

I couldn't care less how tough they were or how many bumps got dished out if it is all behind play, unless it is a bump in play or a good hard tackle I think it's rubbish.

It's not AFL and I don't think the Irish could handle all our crazy intimidation bullshit.....

That's a love tap in our game mate. We've seen how the Irish boys coped when we brought out the hard stuff last year.
The series has become a farce now and should be abolished.

I don't agree.

It hasn't become a farce, it's always been a farce.

Knock it on the head and bring back origin. The IR is, and always has been (apart from a couple of fights) a snorefest.

I'd rather watch the mighty Vics pound ten pounds of shit out of those bastard croweaters. Imagine watching Judd feed Fev :-D

I know what a love tap is, and Hall tackle on McGeeney behind play wasnt one.
And please buddy, check your facts, none of the Irish fans or players moaned about last year, it was our president, who is an ass and the media, who are also asses.
We dont mind it rough, as over 120'000 fans last week and next will testify, thats what he are paying 25 euro to watch.

I'm finally watching it. Simpson rules!

As someone who's played both codes, I don't really buy the concept that by reducing the physical side of the hybrid game the Aussies are having their hands tied.

Both sides are playing a different game to what they normally do and there is give and take across numerous facets by both teams.

It's all about finding a comfortable middle ground, which will take more than two games a year. And they are getting close now.

The round ball helps the Irish out to a degree. I've often contemplated what would happen if one game was played with a round ball and the other with an oval ball.

The wording of scoring a "behind" became glaringly obvious after watching the game tonight. It makes me wonder if that was lifted directly from the Irish game many years ago.
