I think skeptic did a fair review on the other thread....his general skills are ok but he cant ruck..not against the big boys anyway....sorry to say but most teams have the big boys and thats what we should have recruited....a big boy.

The best we could get argument reeks of taking second best...he was a panic buy at over the cost. He isnt physical either so I dont buy this aggressive theory.

He is a player who the club are hoping can get enough of the ball in general play and down forward to offset being smashed in the hitout dept.
Sandilands gets forty hitouts...Ackland gets 20 possies and we call it a draw...that seems to be the only theory in recruiting him that I can see...

Ackland is a mistake IMHO and you can add him to the list of dud retreads that belong in the backyard of a Bob Jane T mart.
The club need to bite the bullet and recruit two young 200cm+ruckman in the National Draft and groom them......which is what they should have done five years ago....

I love Cain.

So much so that I took his name as a sign of my fondness. :o

So it is off to the Blues (and good luck to him) where he will get a regular gig....they are short of talent..

Obviously written by a St Dildo supporter who is completely absorbed in their own 'would be if they could be' world.

Given our list changes, casting your eye over the young developing "talent" left in the squad and our positioning in the upcoming National Draft, I treat the post with the complete contempt it affords.

It won't be easy for Cain. Certain ex Port elements within the playing group are not fond of Cain. Never have been. Never will be.............I sense lot's of tension in the air.

It may not matter really as word on the grapevine has Cain carrying a very wonky knee. He may not see that much action anyway.

I wonder if we can call on Archie to come out of his official (or is that unofficial) retirement during the season, if we need him?

You must be joking. We need another Saddington? :garthp:

Other than Stevens is anyone else ex Port?

We should still look at taking Michael Griffiths late in the ND.

Dont you think Griffith will be taken by a WA club? or is he a Vic looking to get home via the new Matrue age rookie list?

God help those who signed him if the grapevine is accurate.

I don't know about ackland's knee, but the people who signed him are the same people who signed Saddington.

Forgive me if I lack a little faith in their professionalism and thoroughness.

I'm sure a medical would have been done prior to us taking Ackland...

...and before anybody harps up, Saddington did further damage once he arrived at Carlton!

I remember when Ackland moved from Port to St.Kilda a few years ago.
I think Denis was going to look at recruiting him and asked Stevens his opinion on him.

IIRC Nick had nothing positive to say about him. Said he was lazy and liked a drink or too.

Not sure if his opinion has changed since then, but I'm pretty sure he said something along those lines.
