I think the point might be that there are not enough Good News Stories about, or recognition by the AFL for, the work that a lot of the players do for charities, organisations and individuals.

It would be nice to have a balance.

If they're enjoying doing the charity work & doing it for all the right reasons they shouldn't need their names up in lights too much.

I agree we need some perspective. I think
a) bad idea management allowing a booze up during a supposedly 'serious' international tour (regardless of what we may think that's what the AFL want it to be)
b) according to the Hun a number of players were drunk, one vomited in the bar so there is a real concern about the whole management of the team especially when the last tour was criticised for spending more time boozing than playing
c) would like to think team 'leaders' would be around to ensure no young guys go to far
d) would have thought Fev would be one of these leaders rather than the main protagonist
e) forget about what others did, others behaving badly doesn't excuse Fev
f) it is not the same as the various other examples of players getting drunk and acting up. Fev is on an alleged tour representing his country and it shouldn't be too much to ask that they take it reasonably seriously and don't get tanked for two weeks
g) puts Fev back to square one and he needs to give up grog for the next 6 years. If he wants to be a drunken yob, fine, retire. If he wants to be a footy star, do what he did during the season
h) Fev is 26 and needs to stop acting like he is 17. Or if he needs to act like that pick the time and place.
i) what the hell was the team management thinking? just what we need more aussie sportsmen representing us in the big bad world by acting like they are 18 year olds on a contiki tour

After viewing security video Police dicided that there would be no charges were necessary. Fev has an exclusive interview with Ch 9 tonight. Should make him a few bucks.

Nothing like an over -reaction to stir people up. Some people take such a high moral ground they get altitude sickness.

The club has spent the past month pouring money into its PR and one petulant, immature flower pisses it up against the wall.
Brendan Fevola is'nt just representing himself. He is representing his country, his club and the supporters.

His behaviour consistently indicates that when things dont go his way, he acts like a spoilt brat.
Surely at some stage the club needs to set some standards and stick with them.
To consider a player who carries on like a 6 year old when things go against him as a captain is farcical.
I'd retain Kouta for 07 and then give leadership roles to the up and comers in 08.

The AFL and Demitrispew have alot to answer for letting these guys hit the piss in this fashion on a supposed serious tour. Where were the AFL management when this was all unfolding, probably as pissed as them.

The whole tour party was at the races and got pissed. This is the reason why Fev was so pissed early in the evening (AFAIK the incident took place at 9PM local time). However, Fev is stil a flower and why you would hit the grog hard when you try to get onto the team for second test just confirms it...

No problem with that but the AFL are wiping their hands of any responsibility which is bullshit. They are responsible for encouraging the players to hit the piss and they should take some of the brunt for this.Where were our security guys when this was unfolding, hopefully the camera's show how many of the AFL hangers on were their as well.

No, but lets accept the fact the Fev screwed up instead of making excuses for him.
It may be an end of season program but Fevola is representing his country and code. To even consider him for captaincy is farcical.
The club has made expensive efforts lately to resurrect its image and this selfish buffoon puts us back at square one.

Lets stop accepting substandard leaders and fast track the up and comers for leadership roles.

Opinion piece by Robbo

Dunno if this has been posted elsewhere but I thought it was actually a good, balanced piece of journalism.

A refreshing change. :)

Personally and PR wise , this can be turned into the biggest coup of all time....

Get his arese into gear, be apologetic, mean it, remeber his family, make it up to team mates, have a bigger year than 2006 and this guys could be the biggest thing in AFL in 3 years time....dare I say it..."mark my words".

Not that I agree with what he did....just saying that he comes across as a bit of a larrikin, easily led fool...that has the potential to be smart. Turn that into smarts and he the world will be his oyster.....everyone loves that more than someone who was "fine and upstanding" from the beginning.....

PR company, player development blokes, Denis.....this will really test if you can earn your money
