Who's taking the moral high ground?

Brendan Fevola [REDACTED] up big time. Whether police charge him or not is irrelevant - he was giving a pissarse barman a headlock in an Irish pub, and it is on tape. That's enough FOR ME to say he should not (and won't) be captain of our club.

I'm not suggesting he should be sacked, just placed down the pecking order of respect where he belongs until he can show he can handle the responsibilities of leadership - because leadership isn't just about going on the footyshow and making smart arse comments.

Apart from Fevola himself saying he wants to be captain, has anyone from Carlton remotely expressed any genuine consideration of Fevola for captain?

I agree we need some perspective. I think
a) bad idea management allowing a booze up during a supposedly 'serious' international tour (regardless of what we may think that's what the AFL want it to be)
b) according to the Hun a number of players were drunk, one vomited in the bar so there is a real concern about the whole management of the team especially when the last tour was criticised for spending more time boozing than playing
c) would like to think team 'leaders' would be around to ensure no young guys go to far
d) would have thought Fev would be one of these leaders rather than the main protagonist
e) forget about what others did, others behaving badly doesn't excuse Fev
f) it is not the same as the various other examples of players getting drunk and acting up. Fev is on an alleged tour representing his country and it shouldn't be too much to ask that they take it reasonably seriously and don't get tanked for two weeks
g) puts Fev back to square one and he needs to give up grog for the next 6 years. If he wants to be a drunken yob, fine, retire. If he wants to be a footy star, do what he did during the season
h) Fev is 26 and needs to stop acting like he is 17. Or if he needs to act like that pick the time and place.
i) what the hell was the team management thinking? just what we need more aussie sportsmen representing us in the big bad world by acting like they are 18 year olds on a contiki tour

j) great post Gerry

Brendan Fevola is'nt just representing himself. He is representing his country, his club and the supporters.

His behaviour consistently indicates that when things dont go his way, he acts like a spoilt brat.
Surely at some stage the club needs to set some standards and stick with them.
To consider a player who carries on like a 6 year old when things go against him as a captain is farcical.
I'd retain Kouta for 07 and then give leadership roles to the up and comers in 08.

Agree BV. Was even thinking of the Kouta idea while I had my swim today.

The coach was hinting at it not so long ago

No. Pagan was asked the question and he spun some s#$% about how he would be up there in consideration but you could tell he was thinking " Not if I have any say about it."

I think Big Nick thought he'd make an outstanding captain

Apart from that, just half the TC members.

The whole tour party was at the races and got pissed. This is the reason why Fev was so pissed early in the evening (AFAIK the incident took place at 9PM local time). However, Fev is stil a flower and why you would hit the grog hard when you try to get onto the team for second test just confirms it...

No problem with that but the AFL are wiping their hands of any responsibility which is bullshit. They are responsible for encouraging the players to hit the piss and they should take some of the brunt for this.Where were our security guys when this was unfolding, hopefully the camera's show how many of the AFL hangers on were their as well.

Where is the onus on a 26 year old, who has been in the system for 8 years, taking repsonsibilty for his own actions? When are we, as a society, going to start insisting that adults accept responsibility for their behaviour, and stop making excuses for them? It's pathetic that an individual can go out, choose to get intoxicated, and behave in a way that impacts negatively on another person...and people still want to excuse that behaviour.

We are adults who need to be responsible for our actions, and live with the consequences when we stuff up. Simple. And Fevola stuffed up.

I can't believe the hoo ha over this on the news, in the papers and even on the Carlton forums. :? Not like he ripped an ATM out the wall or stole a bus.
The AFL are all keen to protect the guys who have tested positive to recreational drugs but they leave Fev to hang out to dry.

Still believing that Fev is a dill/moron, you do make a good point.

Interesting...I view Fevola's actions as worse than ripping an ATM or stealing a bus. At least with those, no one else is hurt or impacted (although businesses are). Fevola's actions directly impacted on the well being of another person...unacceptable.

Somehow I don't think it would have got much of a mention if it was Kade Simpson who had been involved in an incident.

Lets wait until the police investigation is over before we hang, draw and quarter. There are always a two sides lets hear Fevola's at around 6.00pm tonight.
