News just in from the Vatican - Pope Benedict has just received canonisation nomination papers for a new Irish Saint.

Move over St. Patrick.

Arise St. Paul the Barman.

I try to be Catholic in my intention to offend - I would only be offending 10 million 'paddys' if I kept it that narrow. :P

paul the barman is officially a wanker. just looking for his 15 seconds of fame, well hes got it now. an absolute joke of an incident, and how its getting so much press is beyond me.

i totally agree (and i cant believe that) with synners from the previous page. where was a chaperone (bad spelling, sorry), who was supervising this drinking? who was there in case something like this happened so that they could either keep all the players in check or diffuse the situation? it would appear the afl also have some questions to answer.

also, that guy P.V in the paper today (the "your say" section of the herald sun) you are a grade a jackass. if you dont know what im talking about read it, its only a sentence long, but it forever condemns the tool to a life in the grade-a jackass bin. he says hes a carlton fan, but with a comment like that he probably hasnt been to a game since '95.

The chaperones were leading the drinking throughout the day! Even the journos were joining in the drinking with all the players!!!

I haven't been able to follow the story today.......but did I just hear the spew on radio say that Fev was basically lying about the Irish comments to the Aussies and the racial taunts  .

I mean, I wasn't there so I can't comment - but neither was the @#$%&! spew!!

How dare that @#$%&! come out in the media and spin crap like that when he knows nothing about it - he's got to go

surely if fev is charged, he wont go back to ireland to face the courts...why would he risk a night in jail or waste his own time for an unfair trial. He can rather wake up at 2am and have a video link.

Who is a bigger TOOL: a) SPEW b) KENNET c) G(i_cried_like_a_baby) LYON...... their comments have been nothing but disgraceful and should be reprimanded for bringing the game into disrepute. :)

Bring Back Origin!!

"Fevola claims wrong" - Demetriou

http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&s ... eid=305439

Quote:
"Demetriou said there was "no issue" with Fevola's departure from the country and that the Carlton forward will make himself available for Australian police should the matter continue to be pursued.

Its my understanding that their as many AFL officials on this trip as there are players. So it wouldn't have been too hard to make sure there was an AFL official with every group of players no matter in what direction they took.

And the main problem I have is actually the AFL/SHeedy giving the players a day off in the middle of this 2 week trip, what did they expect them to do.

You wouldn't see Sheedy tell his Essendon* players to go on a 'bender' during the middle of the week between home and away games - why would you tell AFL players to 'take a day off' between the playing of 2 crucial 'Tests'.

BEST THING THAT EVER COULD HAVE HAPPENED!!

Fevola swears off alcohol because his wife is pregnant. He then wins the Coleman Medal playing the best footaball of his carrer.

My fear was always that he would then become complacent and start drinking a bit (maybe a lot, clearly he has a drinking problem), and turn in an average year next year.

Thus I was hoping his wife would get pregnant again, but given this is unlikely so soon, this is the next best thing.

Now Fev has no choice but to pull his head in, swear off the drink again, and show everyone he can play great footy and that last year wasn't a one off.

Yes Fev's a flower and of course he shouldn't be captain (this will finally end all those ridiculous suggestions), but in terms olf benefiting the Blues on field next year, make no mistake, what happened in Ireland is a good thing.

POW!!!

Ok, so I've suggested about 3 POWs already, but they're all good!!

I'm sitting here with a migraine (haven't had one for 20 years, wonder what could have brought it on???), and reading all this over-sensitive, conspiratorial, the-AFL-and-the-media-and-George-Bush-and-the-whole-Universe-have-got-it-in-for-us dribble is not making it any better. Disturbs me to say this, but we're all starting to sound like Collingwood supporters on here.

Ok, so the AFL might have it in for us (personally I don't buy that, but I'm happy to go with it), the media may love getting stuck into us, but at the end of the day, there is a much more serious issue going on here that much more directly effects us.

Our most talented and arguably most important player is a flower. He has a drinking problem, and an attitude problem. He stuffed up big time, and not only that, he stuffed up in a way which impacted on someone else. Bruise or no bruise, racial insults or no racial insults, being physically aggressive to someone else is not acceptable. If you don't like what's going on, then be a man, and get up and walk away. Or be a man, and talk about the issue like civilised human beings. Don't be a complete wimp and use physical aggression. When will the world wake up to the fact that the tough thing to do is to talk in a civilised way to work things out, or to just walk away...and that being physically aggressive is TAKING THE EASY WAY OUT???

And if he can't do the tough thing and talk or walk away, because he's had too much to drink and is not 100% in control of his faculties, then accept the responsibility for his actions that led him to get that way. No one else is to blame about Fevola's behaviour other than Brendan Fevola. He is an adult, he has been in the system for 8 years, so can't use that as an excuse. It's time he accepted that responsibility.

Brendan Felova's behaviour was completely unacceptable. Forget what the AFL have done and what the barman is saying and what the media want to beat up. The bigger issue here, especially for Carlton supporters, is making sure that he, and other players, learn from this, and start taking repsonsibility for their actions and behaviour.

And if they do this, the AFL can't have a go at us, the media will leave us alone, Fev will kick 120 goals next year, and the world will be a much better place.

And yet you do it twice in one sentence.
You know something, I have just come to the realisation that I have wiped better off of my shoe than you.

Whats with these 'crying' references?

And Seanpb, I think you are spot on about the barman and his claim to fame.

Beano, bluehotel...leave it be please.

Let's concentrate our antipathy towards the AFL, the tribunal, Sheedy, Collingwood, Mark Williams and anyone else that has ever done wrong by Carlton.

Oh...and have a go at Fev too if you must. 8)

Mrs C, I am sorry, but I am not having that, I am not having somone constantly berate my Nationality with terms said in an offensive manner time and again and sit idly by and continue to read these posts. Do you honestly expect me to laugh it off and not react to this cretin?

Actually scratch that first line, no apologies for taking offence at terms such as crying paddy's and so forth!

Its more in the intonation dane, having read a few of this guys posts, its seems to be a recurring theme.
For years we have had to put up with the whole 'Paddy' things formthose across the water here, and as you say most Aussies and Irish have some kind of a kinship so the Paddy thing can be, i suppose affectionate, and at times not so much.

Once again, can't help myself getting philosophical again...

Firstly, I should say that I haven't read the whole dialogue that precedes this...I'm here to discuss football and my footy club, I'm not interested in reading people having a go at each other off, whoever they are, and for whatever the reasons. So I tend to just skip over it the instance I see something that resembles such a dialogue.

Having said that...let me say this...

We may believe that a particular term or phrase, be it 'paddy', 'wog', 'dirty Abo', 'jewing money', or whatever, is not offensive. That doesn't mean that it is not considered to be offensive to the person to whom it is directed. Now of course, we can't know all the terms and labels that different people take offence to, but once we are alerted to the fact that something is offensive to someone, then we must accept that and respect that, and cease to use that term.

It is the same argument that Sam Newman used in the issue with Nicky Winmar on the Footy Show. He kept saying that he only meant it as a joke, that he was having a bit of fun, that he didn't mean it to be offensive. Yet he completely missed the point that through out Winmar's life, he had been subjected to racial discrimination, and that regardless of the intention of the deliverer, it still hurt.

Some people may feel that all this political correctness is over the top, but political correctness has been embraced by our society because it serves to protect individuals and groups from discrimination and the painful memories of discrimination. And we only have to compare our own country with other countries on this planet, to see the value of such practices.

Once again, the formula is simple...if we exercise political correctness, the world is a better place.
