We can only hope that Microsoft is involved in some sort of hush-up.

Gates Gate.

Just doesn't work... which would force the media to find different terminology.

You overestimate their intelligence, I think the media would love to use the term Gates Gate.

So, you know all the times where I've said Davis is a cauliflower - I wasn't saying it for the sake of hearing my own voice.

He's a f*cking little wanker - I can't f*cking stand him.

He wasn't even there, most likely tucked up in bed with his teddy and a pic of his mummy on the night-stand.

Simpering git.

All we need now is for Nathan "finals" Brown and Aaron "judas" Hamill to come out and put their ten cents in and my head will probably explode.

sorry i deleted my post:
to summise it said i dont believe the term paddy is offensive/racist.
yeah its a bit rough he was giving you a hard time, and i would have given the same back to him if it had gotten personal with me. was just ssaying this as i believe the world has got hugely politically correct.

Once again, can't help myself getting philosophical again...

Firstly, I should say that I haven't read the whole dialogue that precedes this...I'm here to discuss football and my footy club, I'm not interested in reading people having a go at each other off, whoever they are, and for whatever the reasons. So I tend to just skip over it the instance I see something that resembles such a dialogue.

Having said that...let me say this...

We may believe that a particular term or phrase, be it 'paddy', 'wog', 'dirty Abo', 'jewing money', or whatever, is not offensive. That doesn't mean that it is not considered to be offensive to the person to whom it is directed. Now of course, we can't know all the terms and labels that different people take offence to, but once we are alerted to the fact that something is offensive to someone, then we must accept that and respect that, and cease to use that term.

It is the same argument that Sam Newman used in the issue with Nicky Winmar on the Footy Show. He kept saying that he only meant it as a joke, that he was having a bit of fun, that he didn't mean it to be offensive. Yet he completely missed the point that through out Winmar's life, he had been subjected to racial discrimination, and that regardless of the intention of the deliverer, it still hurt.

Some people may feel that all this political correctness is over the top, but political correctness has been embraced by our society because it serves to protect individuals and groups from discrimination and the painful memories of discrimination. And we only have to compare our own country with other countries on this planet, to see the value of such practices.

Once again, the formula is simple...if we exercise political correctness, the world is a better place.

Political correctness has gone way over the top recently. Racial groups use the slightest excuse to pipe up. Nicki Winmar was satire, how else to you portray him, as a white man? There was nothing racist in it whatsoever. He needs to get over himself. In other words he wasn't discriminated against, which is basically the more line to racism. Muslims......we have to follow their rules and laws if we go there and it still seems, at times, we have to follow them when we're here too. Large Council gatherings, where they ban pork in sandwiches, because there's one Jew there. If they come to our country they follow our rules and culture as we should if we go there. Pauline Hanson was villified as being racist when all she wanted was equality, not reverse racism. That was basically programmed by the press causing all sorts of hysteria. We bend over backyards for these groups because of the fear of treading on toes. If a white person get villified, nothing happens, why? I'm not convinced it's been embraced by our society, it's just something we are programmed to do by the media, like refugee detention centres. For all the publicity they receive, polls show that 80-90% of people agree with them. That's rarely mentioned because it lacks controvesy and doesn't sell papers.

While I believe in some sort of political correctness, it has to be equal for all ...black, white, yellow, pink, Jews, muslims etc...with no discriminarion, or favourtism, either way. At the present it's way over the top.

Anyway, back to the fottball. Sack Pagan, Sack Smorgon, go Blues!!!!!!

Jim, I couldn't disagree with you more strongly. But I don't want to get into an argument on here, it's not what I see as the purpose of this forum. I have stated my view for people to consider, so we shall agree to disagree.

Having said that, I am more than happy to go along with yout last assertion re coach and president. 'Carn the Blues! :-D

Thanks Denis Denuto. 8)

If anyone can watch that video and tell me Fev definitely didnt try to hit him, they've got better eyes than me.

You're correct that the media have turned it into a circus but you can hardly blame the barman. If the media are foolish enough to offer him money to talk and have 5 minutes of fame, so be it. If Fev had acted with more control and maturity instead of being a drunken thug, it wouldnt be an issue.

I wonder if the footage of Paul the barman came from Joe the cameraman.

He's with Fraser Gehrig    "Now Fevola seems to be Carlton's problem and the Blues are clearly wondering what their highly-paid star full-forward is doing in Switzerland or Amsterdam — with Fraser Gehrig — or wherever he has woken up today.
