Stupid question coming, but would appreciate useful answers.

What benefits, other than the financial ones, does the club receive with (interstate) supporters becoming members?

I believe it helps with sponsorship attraction and obviously gives some members voting rights, but what else?

I have, and still do purchase my fair share of Carlton merchandise, so I am supporting the club financially by doing that.

I signed up as an interstate member a few years back, but for the last couple have just bought the merchandise and spread the good word loud and proud up here in Brisbane.

Both polls are exactly the same. At the moment there are 55 votes in the TC one and 54 in the BF poll.

Melb voters with voting rights, 41% BF, 49% TC
Long distance with voting rights, 11% BF, 16% TC

Members as a % of poll voters, 81% BF, 89% TC

When you turn 18 nikki, ring the club and ask them to fax,email,post a voting rites form out to you. You may not be eligible for the next election (the club will be able to tell you when the time comes), but once you fill the form in you will be enrolled.

Hmmm, considering you were responding to an all out attack on Carlton posters by someone else, I'd say the results are not as conclusive as one might have thought. More posters post on more than one site these days, the main difference in my opinion being that the young and ignorant are less likely to survive talking issues on TC as they are quickly weeded out and exposed. I'm not having a go by the way, I too have been surprised with the influx of posters on BigFooty, and a lot of them seemingly new posters that hadn't really looked at the net as a serious vehicle for a Carlton fix before. I'm also surprised to see that the members and voters are holding up well in that poll. I thought it would be a lot lower.

I just think it is dangerous to split the supporter group into those in the know vs the ignorant supporters, especially along site lines. We all have our share of quality and problem children ... part of the rich tapestry I guess.

IMO the Carlton board on BF has improved out of sight in the last 6 months or so. The Carlton supporter base is big and ugly enough to support many websites of all types.

I would have thought the reason there was only 2000 votes recorded last year is because the elections were in March and most had not renewed their membership as yet for the coming season .

Do you have the stats on how many were actually signed up by march last year . The AGM needs to be in november - December

The category I wanted wasn't available so I went for Melbourne based member lapsed member.

The reason I am not a member of CFC (and have not been since the year we moved to TD) is that I don't want to be a member of a club that is totally under the control of the AFL.

Until this preception of silent control is destroyed there are many more like me who wont join. I still go every week and pay at the gate when I need to. It is not about money for me.

Bring on the EGM, get these cashed up backers in, piss the AFL and the hand out off and watch the membership swell to 35,000 plus.

Anything other than decisive action simply wont do.

I keep getting to the end and it wants me to pay the whole membership in one fell swoop. This is sadly not possible until some benevolent employer recognises my undoubted talents and employs me.

Just got off the phone with the membership people.

For those like myself who are concerned whether we can vote or not this year given we turned 18 this year; we cannot vote this year if there is an EGM. We can vote next year; given that we sign the application for a registered member on the membership renewal form.

The membership department have been run off their feet with renewal applications.

Sorry if you misunderstood Jarusa. Was referring to the post you originally quoted at the time. That post clearly implies things about the knowledge and standard of Carlton posters on BF. Was just unfortunate that your correct observation was made while quoting that post. Just a little misleading ... no harm done however.

And you are right again, the Carlton supporter base is big enough and god knows, it all get pretty ugly from time to time.
