Did some good things at times, but let's face it, if we were going to progress - he was never going to be a part of it.....however, as a person I have heard excellent things about him - so all the best to him for the future.

We really do have exciting things to look forward to.

A good bloke off the field, and a player that tried, but just couldn't get it all together on the field consistently.

His best year was his first in 2004.

I know one TC person would be happy to see the back of this guy - Cheers Rod Waddell

Yep because Deluca was just a brilliant ruckman

why will we be takin the Burger when Deluca has retired. Deluca was a guy who tried at CHF as a mobile forward who rucked a bit in the forward line but he was no ruckman. he Was 202cm tall but wasnt considered a ruck prospect he could have been but wasnt ruck savvy

So Deluca allows us to recruit another tall option i suggest we chase Sam Jacobs or Michael Griffith as a replacement tall for Deluca

Thanks for your time at CFC Deluca and good luck in your offield career

Showed a lot of promise early on but never progressed.
Not his fault that he wasnt up to AFL level or that he was re-signed.
Wish him all the best but I think this is a positive for all concerned.

No-one thinks that he was "pushed"?

That was my reading of it between the lines.

Decided to do it gracefully with a payout for next year.

Its funny, I know a bloke who really rated DeLuca. Thought he was a good player and was always denied the right opportunities.
I could never see it myself.

Makes Leuenberger more likely, although I think the Blues would be better taking Gibbs myself ...

Weren't the club trying to talk him out of it- hence the announcement delayed after Oct 31?

Thanks Archie for your efforts and for knowing when to pull the pin. Good of him not to take the money and go around again next year half assed.

It'll be interesting to see what the club do from here, will they promote Aisake or Jackson or go an extra pick in the draft.

Yesterday Deluca was on the CFC list and he was never really going to play much in the ruck in 2007. Acland, Mclaren and Bryan were always going to do the bulk of it on game day.

Today Deluca is no longer with CFC so the effect that has on our ruck stocks is negligible really.

So why look at an unknown like Griffith who is 23 and been passed over 5 years in a row.

There is obviously Leuy, Renouf, Hampson, Tippet and Jacobs all 200+ to pick from. Would you give up a spot for Griffith instead of one of the above?

The point is being missed here. The issue is not whether Archie was 'just' a player. The issue is that ANOTHER guy (this time only 24 yrs of age) has walked away from footy because he has 'better things to do'. Give me a break!

Read between the lines people. French walked away for the same reason.

This time it might be fringe players. What if next year it is someone slightly better. What if, Waite decides, "I've had enough of this bloke. I'm outta here as well?"

The other point to note is that Archie told the club last week - before the Ackland announcement. His decision meant that Ackland all of a sudden was a priority.

Once again, after the horse has bolted, Denis tries to talk Archie around - Denis was met with a stern, "i'm not interested..........go away" reply. Funny how you don't really talk to blokes during the year and then all of a sudden, once they decide to go, you call them wanting a chat.

Will remember him for his last quarter long goals from marks in the game against Collingwood a couple of seasons back...the game where davies starred in the final quarter to bury the pies...

De Luca was just not up to it, he's lucky if Denis would call him and not just de-list him every other club in the comp wouldn't touch him.
Ackland offers more as a ruck if he can get on the park, as for taking up space on the half forward line, this will (hopefully) give more time to JK, a genuine prospect.
