 2006 was an off year. Here's hoping this is an on year, though I'll definitely settle for an off year. 8)

Give Walker the job.

Wouldn't you rather let him focus on his own game without worrying about the extra burden of being captain? Again I'm not dismissing his leadership credentials but he's only played 55 games and is only 20 years old. He only really established his place in the side this season. He has a fair way to go and needs to concentrate on his own performances before having to worry about those of his teammates. Maybe down the track he'd be an option but too young and inexperienced at this stage.

Na, AW’s a gun IMO.
He’s got his head screwed on.
He’s got a professional, no bullshit 100% approach to being the best.
He’s comes across as very strong-willed & mentally tough.
Plays with heart & loves the mighty blues.
Has all the right attributes to lead the new young gun blues. Captain written all over him.
Future 300 gamer & a big chance for the Brownlow next year is my hot tip.

Stevo & Simmo for co VCs.

Fev is a thickhead. Lance is untrustworthy. Kouta & Skinny are past it.

Walker is so far away from the captancy it's not funny. He may turn out to be a great leader of the CFC, but at the moment, as Blues says, he has so much more to focus on in developing his own game. If we give him the captaincy now, we might very well ruin him as a player.

Na, see what’s not funny at the moment is this ‘fear of making a mistake’ feeling.
No one has the balls to make bold decisions.
Lance & Kouta are yesterdays men.
YESTERDAY IS GONE FFS!!!!!!!

We only have the future!

BE BOLD AND INTRODUCE OUR FUTURE!!!

Here's a radical idea : Kouta should stay on a captain to give Murphy and co more time to develop.

I agree with Blue Vain, Whitnall and Fev simply don't deserve it... and both owe the club for their varying levels of commitment over the seasons

Although I love the romance in the "Kernahan for captain at 23" theory...the problem is we ain't got no "Kernahans" on our list at present.

I think Lance more than deserves it. An AA (maybe shou'd have been twice), B & F, a natural leader and easily our best leader. Give it to him until he retires. Fev VC, let's face it Carey was still captain of North when he got caught grabbing a female on the tits in 1995, and then led the side to a flag in 1996 something far worse than Fev's completely overblown incident that'll be forgotten in a week. Remember Neitz's incident at Crown and he's still captain. Otherwise maybe promote one of the youngsters to VC or, at worst, definitely DVC.

....Fev's missed the boat.. ..he was already a longshot/wildcard possibility as captain, now he's bad publicity waiting to happen.. ..even if he behaves, everyone will be watching for him to fall.. ..and really, this has been his big year to behave, and as soon as he was let off the leash he misbehaves.. ..and having a captain always leashed is a bollocks idea..

..Lance should be captain, but they need to play him at CHF to be an effective one.. ..our forward line is a biggest (only) strength, and if he's gonna be directing players best he direct them their, prevent fev from getting double teamed and attract defenders himself plus worry the coaches.. ..down back he's only in damage control..an arse-backwards way to coach a side..

..like phil collins said, yer cant hurry the future.. ..or was that love..??.. ..anyways, most folks see the future in the kids, and that's all pina-coladas.. ..it's undoubtedly a man's game and the kids have gotta become men first.. ..we can't have a kid running around as captain, we're a weak side enough as it is.. ..a few good bumps and our captain won;'t know arthur from marthur..

How about we think about next year rather than "the future".

I know what you are trying to say... but that sentence makes no sense what-so-ever... :P

I'd say still give Fev the captaincy if the club was considering it, but (and yes Kernahan managed) Fev needs to focus more on doing what he does best - kicking sausage rolls rather than have the obvious pressure of performing and behaving well AS WELL AS being a captain...

...as for Whitnall, I don't reckon he is a suitable captain - yes he has leadership qualities but has not shown that consistency needed to lead by example on the field (I'm talking career, not last year)... but in all reality we don't have anybody else really that would be suitable either...

I know next year is "the future" too, but it is the immediate future.

Since 1991or 1992 (it was a Collingwood supporter initially) I have had soooo many people talking to me about how their club is looking to "the future". Melbourne supporters, Geelong supporters, dang even Hawthorn supporters  . None of those blokes have got a premiership.

It's such a false hope "the future". It's so false it has become futile and meaningless when trundled out by supporters year after year.

There is only "now".

Don't worry verbs, I've always stated that we will win a premiership well before Collingwood - and when I think about it Essendon* too for that matter...

In essence we are the only team that have really needed to say that we're 'looking to the future', when the draft penalties hit (and at that stage we were already on the downward spiral) it wasn't a quick fix... it was a wait and rebuild thing - in my eyes it was always going to be a true test to see who the real supporters were, knowing that we were going to have quite a few years of hardship ahead of us...

Next year, I'm just hoping that we bump up the competitive-ness, play the younger kids a lot more (irregardless of result) and hopefully to knock off Collingwood... :P

This coming from a person who always starts the year with high hopes of making the 8...

that fact that we have so few options for a captain completely reflects where we are as a footy team ... 24 - 27 group is so thin with players/quality. this the generation we forgot about when developing the list unfortunately we will have to wait for the next group to reach there

for what it's worth I think Whitnall for captaincy only because it might actually help him take more responsibility and improve him (hopefully the likes of Ratten/Sticks/Bradley can get in his ear and get him to take another step) ... and really what other options do we have

Whitnall will be the next Captain and then after that it is a two horse race between...Murphy and Gibbs.

I felt that if Lance came back looking good then they'd have no other option but to give it to him, especially with Fevola's time in the news. I guess this article confirms Lance is as trim, taut and terrific as Jennifer Hawkins...

Lance looked great at training yesterday and Murphy has bulked up considerably.

I think Lance will get the job but Fev will be spiritual leader on the field.
Lance will caretake the position until Marc Murphy is ready and I expect Marc to be our next premiership captain....

Aspiring captain Lance Whitnall should avoid the annual taunts about his weight. He looked super fit and it is said he desperately wants the captaincy.

Nice to hear!

Too much of Lance's time at Carlton has seen him struggle with his condition.

I'm not convinced.
