Aussies say no to oval ball
03 November 2006

The Australian Ladies team have turned down the opportunity to play Saturday’s Second Test at Parnell Park with their customary oval ball in an attempt to make the game more competitive.

Ireland hammered their Aussie counterparts by 130-15 in the First Test last Tuesday and the Irish offered to play the second test with the oval ball.

However, the normal rules will apply, although there has been a change in where a ’mark’ can be made. Unlike the First Test when a player could only make one inside the respective ’45’s, it will be allowed all over the field tomorrow night.

they should have played with the oval ball...the irish trying to control it would be like a 3 stooges sketch.

"ey laddy, pass me the ball wee lass....i feel like im on the field with shemp...to be sure, to be sure."

yeah, cos thats how we all speak over here, we'd have to take off our flat caps, or even leave them behind in our thatched cottages.
hahahaha.

To be honest, I think they would adapt ok, same as the men would.

It sounds like the ball wouldn't make much difference from that scoreline.

The real difference would be that the Irish ladies are probably a lot harder than the Aussie girls...........

There are some stunners playing the game up in QLD. I half contemplated becoming a groupie.

Then there are some who'd knock Barry Hall out...I only remembered them wee lasses once I'd sobered up.

Some good footballers playin in the womens leagues if they had testes they would be afl quality. Dench's daugher would be an example of that. (maybe cfc can pay for some sex changes and that would get us a couple of hard players0

That's just ridiculous, they wouldn't even be competitive in the VFL.

Quite a few of them would no doubt iron out my good self.....but VFL players? maybe 5% (ie the real real small blokes) if that.

There are some big girlies playing the game...but nah, perhaps one big girl at most would be able to make VFL grade. If very very lucky.

Well. until we get to whatever year it becomes a reality, we'll never know.

As far as guts go, there's a bunch of girls who can play a whole lot beter and show a whole lot more determination, than a whole lot of blokes.

It's completely impossible to determine how they would go playing against men, but make no mistake, some of the women players can certainly lay it on the line
