I thought Murph signed a three year deal. He has bulked up a bit.

Welcome Bryce.

That is all well and good, but the most exciting thing to read in this article is the extra responsibilities given to Marc Murphy. This guy should be our captain from next season. He has maturity poise and skill that the rest of the list can only dream of and through his articles he shows that he is exactly the type of respectable young man that all our players should be aspiring too.

Agree.. :-D and with murph and walks and simmo. You can just tell by their attitude that THEY want to make the club a success and aren't going to wait around for others to do it for them.

I'd like to see murph, simmo and walks as our captains/vice captain in any combination. Probably prefer to see simmo as Captain at this stage.. just reckon they would thrive on being formally made leaders around the club.

Very Exciting stuff! Just one more year of pain I suspect... :(

Q. though, the article says Gibbs will be getting a 3-4 year contract - how many years did Murph get in comparison!?

The blues gave Murphy a three year contract last year, so you would think that if they are consistent they would offer GIBBS at least that.

I would actually offer GIBBS four years, and put arrangements in place to extend Murphys contract by another year, sooner rather than later. That way Murphy would not feel as though the Blues rate Gibbs more than him...

Could also be that he is from South Australia....Murphy didnt have to relocate so offering Bryce 4 years is us telling him he will be a Carlton player for life.

Even Caroline Wilson's putrescent prose can't diminish this good news.

Mods/Admin, could you please change it so that anytime Gibbs is written, it shows up as GIBBS?

Let's see...

That'd be a yes. 8)

Wow, good news from the club I guess. I still wish we had #1 and #2, LEUENBERGER will be a STAR!

But, but, it was in the paper. And the big paper at that. So it must be true.

He could fall down a hole and injure himself tomorrow, touch wood.

I doubt there is any need to make a decision this early.
From memory, Hughesy has a history of letting players know a day or so before hand.

Perhaps the club felt it was time for some more positive PR. While I'm not particularly a Wilson fan, I can't see her fabricating this.

Scary to think that young Bryce will play the entire 2007 as an 18 year-old. He already carries the air of an accomplished footballer, and by all acounts, is just the sort of model individual we need to rebuild this club. As strong as this draft is, and as compelling as some of his contempories may be, Gibbs is almost a no-brainer selection for us.

All jokes and my gibbs obsession aside, this was my first thought.

The only thing that naming him early does is it gives Essendon* a clearer run at the draft.

We should be keeping everyone in two minds until draft day.

Quite possibly she hasn't...but it must be the work of the SneakyLeaker again if true.

The article doesn't say that the club announced this.

No comment from the club. Funny how we are willing to accept some articles and not others.

Caro is taking a punt to get the jump on Mike and Pat. She may turn out to be right (it's hardly a ballsy call), but remember this 'journo' had two or three cracks at getting the St Kilda job right.

... Nostradamous would've made great jouno.
