Caro has suggested Hughes, Sticks, Malouf and Murph visited Gibbs in Adelaide last week, is this false?
I dreamt I saw them with a six pack and a glazed donut on the South Gippy Highway to Nar Nar Goon

They might have gone and said take a three or four year or no thanks.
Great idea to get a feel for if he's a yo-yo.
I actually thought they couldn't talk to the boys now because of their studies or whatever?

Yay for common sense. :)

Didn't they already have an excursion like this for Leuenberger?

And no one can see them at Melbourne Airport if they're heading west out of town for a drive out to Nar Nar Goon... ;)

Are there any official betting odds I can get on Gibbs being #1 pick? 8)

you beauty, welcome to the blues Gibbsy

you dont mind we missed out on all the others.....( L'berger, Hansen, Selwood, Proud,Hansen,Gumbleton)???

No.

There's always another Daniel Kerr or Danyle Pierce there if you look hard enough and having pick 17 this year is still great.

We should draft three mids like TheTyrant suggested.

Maybe she missed part two where they all got on a plane the next morning and went to Perth

I am not sure Caro would recognise Vlad Tepes coming up behind her with a sharpened stake. She certainly would not understand the implications. [We might enjoy the spectacle, but that is another matter.]

Exactly.

Here it is:

October 16th: Ratten set for coaching role with Carlton

Pruneface's buddy Jake wrote:
Carlton is now focusing on the national and pre-season drafts and yesterday interviewed one of its candidates for the No 1 selection, ruckman Matt Leuenberger, in Perth.

Maybe we've found a loophole that allows us to select multiple players at the one pick? :P

Leuenberger wouldn't need the hard sell about the club if he's a Blue boy. So I suspect the contingent that went along consisted of something like Grant Williams, Wayne Hughes and a few others from the FD. They would have spoken to him about the idea of coming to Carlton briefly, but more about how he would deal with being the number 1 pick, and how they could help him deal with the pressure that may place on himself (as he has previously indicated).

Gibbs on the other hand needs a bit of a different sell. So they come along and say "we want you at Carlton and we think you'll want to stay and be part of a dynasty", so they take captain in waiting Murphy, (supposedly) the man with the business plan and his dad's old mate to sell 'Carlton: the brand' and 'Carlton: the future'.

I suspect they may trot out something similar for Hansen, especially with no airfare costs. :P

EDIT: Mods, why have you set up a filter to capitalise Bryce's surname... shame shame shame. :P

Fair point but when your president admits that he has sneaky leakers going around the joint then you can take what caro has stated as gospel.
Welcome aboard Gibbs!!

Because she's the respected journo everyone goes to when they want a fair deal. Even when they have efffectively publicly insulted her at a Club function.

No you may well then take what the source says as gospel, and you recognise that Caro sprinkles a bit of her own sugar (*vomit*) on top.

And we don't actually know what the source said... which could have been nothing more than "Oh those guys went to Adelaide to speak to Bryce Gibbs, he's a good chance to go number 1."

Then, Chief Football Editor of The Age newspaper, Caroline Wilson, sees her name in lights and starts writing an article.

Yes I'm aware Caro is not quite this stupid, but it's still an unsubstantiated report, and she knows how much trouble she'll be in if she flogs it more.

Another small jigsaw piece falls into place

Although I always felt very strongly indeed (and I believe I am on record here as writing) that Gibbs was destined to come to Carlton.

Its a great feeling though to know that this is finally going to happen.

I am very very worried though about Fevolas emotional state.

But maybe the thought of pin point 40 metre passes from Gibbs or Murphy would make Fev feel better.

Beware my signature...

but I can't help but feel with some really effective pre-season work including forward structures and methods to overcome the opposition floods that we could accelerate realtively quickly.

Think about our marking options up forward if all on-song - Kennedy, Fisher, Waite, Fevola, Whitnall - all very good 1 on 1. If we can find a way to isolate these guys and not fall into the trap of pack / flooding then surely with the better skill level coming frmo half back and through the midfield of Murphy, Gibbs, Scotland, Walker and a refreshed Stevens we could start to rock opposition defences.

And Bower, Thornton, the ever-improving O'hAilpin and maybe Hartlett coming on our defence is starting to look more solid as well.

And don't forget Eddie picking up the crumbs of whatever the forwardline big guns leave behind.

Things are getting better I reckon - we're not that far away from decent, competitive footy.

Yes, it's pure lunacy.
