It has many points...all of them pointing at the draft.

Gibbs is almost ours...almost.

Would the PP then mean other penalties are up for review?

We should just count ourselves lucky for being able to get Walker.

This is pie in the sky stuff so long after the event. We should have had a court injunction in place allowing us to participate in that original Goodard-Wells draft and then taken our chances after that.

i agree Dukes, the window of opportuity was at the time of the event. Unless some startling evidence has surfaced?

We have until the day before National Draft Day - 24th November.

As I have said earlier - the AFL reamed us right royally less than 8 hours before the National Draft of 2002.

If there is any modicum of a liklihood that we can get this to fly then we should seize the opportunity with both hands.

We have finished last two years running - if anyone deserves 2 early first round draft picks its us. We have won 7 games in 2 years for @#$%&! sake.

The AFL have changed the goal posts when we need assistance most.

The AFL changed the rules at the 11th hour to @#$%&! us in 2002 they can change the draft order again in 2006 at hte 11th hour to assist us.

mate its easy....WHY would the afl do that??? they have nothing to gain by giving carlton that pick and they also have potential law suits coming from 15 other clubs who get pushed back in the order..

Your right why would the AFL do that?

But if you look at the what was written during the course of this thread it wasn't the AFL going to do it willingly - the CLUB has received very good legal advice that there is a very strong case to be made in arguing that the 2002 Priority Pick was stripped from the club contrary to AFL rules.

As for the law suits coming from 15 other clubs being pushed back in the order - that is the AFL's problem.

I remember it was in the papers in 2002 around draft time that if we got stripped of our picks Richmond would take legal action because they traded pick 4 or whatever it was which would've ended up being pick 6. Nothing came of it and not too suprisingly nobody else really gave a @#$%&! about moving 2 picks up the order.

So if on good legal advice we can win then we should definately go for it, @#$%&! the other clubs they'll just have to cop it. It seems to me that this could be a complete reversal of 2002, good for us and bad for everyone else. Oh how I would smile!

With 16 days to go, I honestly think such a big decision would have been made by now. However, as Agro pointed out, our fate in 2002 was sealed 8 hours before the 2002 draft commenced.

But, I still don't think we'll get that pick.

Any news on it though?

Yes everyone says we wont get it.

Well we wont @#$%&! get it if all we say is we wont get it.

We need to fight to get it.

We need to pursue this course of legal action.

Whether its by injunction, writ or whatever.

The club is currently in possession of clear legal advice saying their is some chance of challenging the validity of the AFL's decision to strip us of the priority pick in 2002.

We were going to stick this up the AFL's arse until "The Spew" waived the issue of the $500,000 AFL loan in our face.

This new Board Challenge cant come quick enough IMHO - give the AFL its money back and then go straight to the Supreme Court and stick it too the AFL where it hurts in their big fat @#$%&! GREEK EGO.

Well, we only got "it" taken off us a few hours before the draft, so why not get "it" back a few hours before the draft.

Agro, you and I are on the same page on this issue but unfortunately as you can see with the majority through this thread there is very little support through the supporter base and as I said a few weeks back our club simply does not have the balls or backbone to follow this through and challenge the pricks at AFL House.

I actually think the club has a case with the change of rule this year with the priority pick being discriminatory and anti-competitive but it appears that the legal opinion is that the 2002 PP situation is the one to pursue.

Do I want the club to follow this through to the end? Bloody oath
Do I think the club will? Sadly no.

And that is the crux of the situation. Now that we have lost some of our autonomy to the AFL, we are compromised and petrified about offending them.
