What a bunch of revisionist drivel. You have absolutely no idea what you are on about in regards to your comments re North. You are just making things up to suit your argument. Do you have any, and I mean ANY, evidence to support ypur claims Carey did all the work, and all Pagan did was cover Carey's tracks?!?!? Utter crap.

Perhaps you don't have any football sources SA Blue.

What Elwood Blues 1 said is not revisionist, it is a common view around the traps, so to speak, in AFL/VFL circles.

It seems to me the point to take from that interview is French confirming what many observers have noticed, that Pagan has not modernised his approach to football

didn't Manton make some fairly pointed statements about Angwin, when you would expect someone in his position to be a little more understanding/compassionate/willing to assist?

Perhaps your definition of class is different from mine.

There was nothing classy in his attitude towards the Club on leaving.

Direct from a ex Nth Melbourne player...who was part of the Carey era....worked with the ex player's partner who gave me all the goss on the Roos and how they operated. Carey was the discipline factor with regards to the players...Denis let him do what he liked ...if you knew anything about Nth Melbourne you would know of his many indiscretions....hitting on players wifes was part of it, even tried it on with my workmate....Kellie Stevens was no surprise to those who knew how Carey operated..
Denis just let it all go through to the keeper, the club picked up the tab on the pay offs and legals and it all didnt matter as long as the team kept winning...Carey and his henchmen ran the show...Wayne even picked where the team went on end of season trips...no discussion.
The younger players and fringe senior players cheered when Carey left and were equally happy to see the back of Denis Pagan

SABlue...if you are going to be a smartarse then you have to get it right and you havent on this occassion....next time you have a crack maybe make a few polite enquiries before you do......

I reckon he was pretty restrained considering the way he was shafted.

Well Danny, if CG can coach the Bullants... surely some AFL players can player/coach North.

You haven't even answered my question, which tells me you have no proof. I didn't ask whether Carey was a good person, or if he was allowed to get away with indiscretions. I am sure he was. You stated that Carey was the reason for the success at North, and that all Pagan did was clean up after him. Pagan was an integral part of the success at the Roo's, and to now say his role amounted to little other than cleaning up after Carey is revisionist drivel.

I have the word of an ex player who played at the club during the Pagan/Carey years...you have offered nothing...integral?....tell me how a coach who was hated by the young players was so integral.
Maybe Corey Mckernan could tell you how integral Denis was.....

Wayne Carey was integral to North...Denis wasnt....

Wayne Carey was god at that club......

Do you understand English SA Blue? Elwood answered your question - by explaining what his source said, he's demonstrated his point re: Carey pulling the strings - by which Pagan relied upon to gain his success.

Barnaby - great club man. Great in the gym and on the track. Well respected by all especially the younger core of players. Will be missed especially by those youngsters.

Knew his time was up but was prepared to go on for one more year to help out. But, obviously his relationship with the coach was not good.

You really need to ask the question why is it that so many players don't get along with him? If it were one or may be two. Even three perhaps. But over the years, up to a dozen have walked and others have wanted to but couldn't. Not all were 'cowboys'. Some like Barnaby are quality individuals in all facets.

The issue is one of COMMUNICATION or Pagans inability to CONNECT.

Barnaby --- a class act!
His leadership around the club will be sorely missed.

I am not sure if you even bothered to read my response, of if you swallow the same drivel put forward.

Elwood's 'inside source', I am not sure how many degrees of separation we are having, stated that Carey was allowed to do what he liked. Did this source mention anything about Pagan building this team from the u/19's. Did the source mention anything about Pagan being loved by these players, as evidenced many times by what players like Carey, Archer, Stevens had said about him?? Did the source talk about the tactics used? Did the source talk about his reinvention of many players? Did his source talk about having to do it with ber limited resources? No.

This inside source offers nothing but gossip about the internal affairs at the club. There is nothing here even football related. I have no doubt, Carey played a huge role at the club, but to state that Pagan just sat back and enjoyed the ride is just drivel. I guess they just named him coach of the century (Roos) because he was great at hiding things?!?!?

So the coach they named their best ever, was what?? just average? He built that team and club to what it was in the 90's. From his coaching in the juniors, to playing and winning GF's he played an integral role. We are just going to have to agree to disagree. I think Pagan played an integral role in creating the great North side, you don't.
