Any new board (or new President with substantially tha same board) will only prove the folly of Smorgon if they come in, and outline a plan of action for the future. And the plan needs to be not just more of the same, or more money from benefactors, but an outline of how the club is to be changed structurally into an organisation that can deliver sustained high level output, capable of winning us a flag or few. Then delivering on the plan.

Anyone coming into this role will need between 6 and 12 months to show us changes. It cannot and will not happen overnight - as much as people here will probably claim failure if the entire place is not changed within 2 weeks. If it happens we will need to be patient.

Okay fine, but that doesn't prove the folly of the previous administration necessarily. We won't know if parts of any current plan (if there is one) are merely picked up and expanded upon by a new administration, unless of course a new administration comes out publicly and declares that there was nothing in place. It's like politics. Incoming governments pick up some planning infrastructure from the outgoing government but then take credit for it all. Call it semantics if you like, but I don't believe a new administration coming in and announcing anything proves the folly of anything. It really comes down to the individual and what they want to believe. It won't be proven, certainly not enough to tell another poster they are absolutely wrong and will be shown to be so down the track.

I much prefer the building up of what the new administration will do for us, rather than the tearing down of what some believe the current administration have done right. One is positive, one is political negativity and really grates on the nerves.

By the sounds of what is about to happen, it is so impressive that there is no need to guarantee its success by discrediting the current board. The board honest triers or otherwise will be swept aside easily and no mud or accusations of 'spin' need to be flung around to ensure it happens .... surely?



Agree completely. Expectations are probably reaching fever pitch though as time passes, so some of those calls of failure will no doubt come out.

Changes in infrustructure will be made.
Money will be brought in to bring the club to a cash positive position and the AFL will be paid out.

The right people will be put into place to make sure the correct things happen.

How are we going to pay out the AFLs 1.5 mill .. when we have yet another million dollar loss and were into cash negative territory??

You just cant keep going down that road and getting spin doctors to elp you organise positive stuff in the media.. because sooner or later it all catches up with you.. which is whats happening.

That's just crap.

We need change yes, but to suggest the Club management has lost control of the club is drivel.

Go and have a look over the collapse of Ansett if you want to see a company/institution falling apart at the seams.

We've instituted changes and while the net effect may wind up being indifferent, it's not 'papering the cracks' in an economic sense.


The money is a big positive, but what makes those installing the 'right' people superior to those previous? I'm sure the current board would make some stellar choices and changes with a cash injection.

all relevant parties were told this week that financially, we are now back in very very dangerous territory - we are going the other way again.

The AFL threw us $1.5 million but it's almost negligible. The NAB have closed the door on us - no more credit. If we slide any further, I believe the message was very loud and clear from the NAB.

If the new board don't move in the liquidators will.

Whilst i'm definitely an advocate for change at board level this comment above is exactly how i feel. This has been going on for several months now, either hurry up and get it done or back whoevers in power at the start of the year 110%.

Either put up or shut up and get behind the club.

Who do you want to shut up? No one has actually said anything. A few posters on here have mentioned things that they may know of, but there is no one who has come out and said anything officially, said anything to rock the boat.

All this talk of this group (whoever they are) not having its act togther is nonsense. IF there is a group, they are getting themselves together, getting themselves organised, to do things the right way. Exactly as it should be.

I find it curious that so many on here are questioning the competence of this group simply because a few posters on here have said things will happen at a certain time and they haven't.

the CarltonOne ticket was hastily put together, and it showed. A disparate group of people (ex players, a lawyer, a couple of businessmen, an art dealer) who:

(a) have since proven that they're not A-Grade board members, and

(b) couldn't remain united, and factionalised pretty quickly - hence all the unseemly leaks, infighting and general put-your-head-in-your-hands-and-sob bad news stories.

The makeup of the next board has to be spot-on.

I HATE waiting, but I'm prepared to if it means we get it right.
