''How do I hate thee ? Let me count the ways ''

He did but see him passing by, and yet he hates him till he dies.

Why does Synbad hate Lance so,
now he's playing better footy and on less dough ?

How can you hate a man who always gave Leppitsch a bath ?
Did he knock back Synbad's request, to sign an autograph ?

There must have been some incident where Synbad was so slighted.
When Lance had his 21st, was Synbad not invited ?

Does Lance drive really slowly when in the right hand lane ?
He must have done something awful to have caused all this pain.

Was he ever rude or insulting to Synbad's partner or wife ?
Perhaps he treated Synbad poorly in a previous life.

Did Lance use Synbad's toilet, and piss upon the seat ?
Does he hand out poisoned apples to kids for ''Trick or Treat ?''

Does Lance take 13 items through the ''12 items or less ?''
Did he spew in Synbad's house, and then not clean up the mess ?

I find all this resentment a bit puzzling, but not boring.
In an ever changing world, it's kind of reassuring.

'cause no matter what Lance does, out on the footy field,
we know we can rely on Synbad to never, ever yield.

And when Lance dies, Synbad's hatred will go on, like that song that's in ''Titanic''.
It's a hatred deep and powerful, passionate and manic.

For so long as men breathe, or eyes can see,
Synbad will hate Whitnall, passionately.

You're right. He can't play on main opposition players except for :

- the numerous occasions he annihilated triple premiership CHB Justin Leppitsch

- the numerous occasions he annihilated dual premiership CHB Glen Jakovich

- the night he annihilated premiership CHB Peter Caven

- the day he annihilated Dustin Fletcher, James Hird and Matthew Lloyd

- the numerous times he has played on and beaten Luke McPharlin

- the night he stopped Warren Tredrea at AAMI Stadium

- his destruction of premiership defenders Lewis Roberts-Thompson and Craig Bolton at Telstra Dome last year

- his annihilation of Adam Hunter (twice) in 2005

- the day he beat Barry Hall at Telstra Dome in 2006.

Over-rated, underperforming and not a frontliner.
Also, it would seem, solely responsible for our decisions to draft Massie, Vance, Livingston and Sporn with early picks.
Also, it would seem, solely responsible for the decision to build the Legends' Stand, thus causing all of the club's financial problems.
Blaming Whitnall for all of the problems of the Carlton Football Club is , of course, as irrefutable as Mel Gibson's claim about the Jews causing all of the wars in the world.

Frankly, tits on a bull would be much more useful.

I think the only thing Lance annihalated is your ability to understand football....and the tuckshop...

No, you don't hate him.

Just as :

- Hitler didn't hate the Jews

- Andrew Bolt doesn't hate government funded artists

- the G20 protestors don't hate the dehumanising effects of economic rationalism and global capitalism

- the suits in the G20 don't hate trade unionists and the G20 protestors

- Karl Marx didn't hate the oppressive nature of the bourgeoisie

- Al Qaeda doesn't hate the ''Crusading infidels''

- the ''Black 'n Tans'' didn't hate the IRA

- the IRA didn't hate the ''Black 'n' Tans''

- the Rwandan Hutus didn't hate the Tutsis

- the Iraqi Shiites don't hate the Sunnis

- everyone doesn't hate Mr Baldy

- everyone doesn't hate Kyle Sandilands

- Patrick Smith doesn't hate Carlton

- everyone doesn't hate Patrick Smith

Captain (def.) : commander of vessel or company of soldiers; leader, chief.

Simply put, we don't have a player to fit this bill at the moment.
I don't think the captaincy is going to change anything next year.
Surely we can't be any worse then 4 wins no matter who is captain.

The leadership and instillation of Carlton passion and sence of club pride into the playing group should be; and I believe will be next year; provided by the likes of Ratts & Braddles.

Who actually carries the mantle of Captain at this stage is irrelevant.
If the younger guys we expect to step-up in the next year or so are going to be leadership material in the future, then they will have to do the 'stepping-up' themselves and show the leadership we expect. That has to come from within ........... not because any other particular player holds the captaincy or sets the example for them to follow.

I don't care who is captain next year, because I don't believe it matters. We will improve as a team and when we are playing/acting/performing like a team, a leader will emerge naturally and the selection will be automatic.

At that time, we will be a team to be reckoned with again. The captaincy will actually matter then because the man in question will need a couple of years to rehearse his premiership acceptance speech.

Or were you requesting to hear ''Living in the Past'' by Jethro Tull.
If so, I couldn't agree more. It's about time the Tull were reintroduced to the Gold 104 playlist.

Ease up mate... I mean who would you put on Franklin?

195 cms with the pace of a midfielder... it's a tough matchup.

Thornton, Walker, O'Hailpin, Fisher, Waite. Any of those ahead of McGrath but hey there's been worse. Teague on Stafford, Livo on S. Burgoyne.

Good start.

Now - which of those take Croad and Williams?

Thornton can only keep up with any of them on a good day, Walker doesn't have the reach to compete well with Franklin when trailing him and Waite is shocking at direction change, relative to these opponents.

Oh and Fisher's not that cracking off the mark.

So - Thornton on Williams, Walker on Croad and Santy on Franklin.

And hope nothing goes wrong or a small forward doesn't pop up.

Hackershmidt - I like your poem. It was quite clever.

Jimmae - Pagan did try Santy on Franklin in the second quarter - but for the most part stuck with McGrath on Franklin.

Whitnall - as a leader - should take the tough jobs. Sticks, Jezza, Nicholls - all these captains took the tough jobs and led from the front.

Being captain these days at Carlton is like a superannuation payout. It is a reward for long service - nothing more, nothing less.

last time we played the hawks croad had to play on fevola and fev kicked 8 on him. so croad might not even play forward but more importantly they have to worry about our forward line just as much as we have to worry about theirs if fisher, waite, fevola, kennedy and betts are all playing forward. if both backlines can hold their own, it comes back to a battle between the 2 midfields.

The words ''Who controls the past, controls the future. Who controls the present, controls the past'' appear in the Rage Against the Machine song ''Testify''.

The quote was taken from George Orwell's novel ''1984''.

''The party and Oceania had never been in alliance with Eurasia. He. Winston Smith, knew that Oceania had been in alliance with Eurasia as short a time as four years ago. But where did that knowledge exist ? Only in his own consciousness, which in any case must soon be annihilated. And if all others accepted the lie which the party imposed - if all records told the same tale - then the lie passed into history and became truth.
'Who controls the past', ran the Party slogan, 'controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.'

''You are improving. Intellectually there is very little wrong with you. It is only emotionally that you have failed to make progress. Tell me, Hackenschmidt - and remember no lies: you know that I am always able to detect a lie - tell me, what are your true feelings towards Lance Whitnall ?''
''I hate him.''
''You hate him. Good. Then the time has come for you to take the last step. You must love Synbad. It is not enough to obey him: you must love him.''
He released Hackenschmidt with a little push towards the guards.
'Room 101,' he said.''

To be continued .......

Sounds good and we chuck a smaller guy like McGrath on that small forward.
You're on the ball Jimmae, I don't care what everyone else says about ya.

The past cant be controlled because its gone...

But i know what you mean.. youre trying to say "unless you learn from the past youre doomed to continue making the same mistakes..."...

in that case consider Jarrod Molloy..... or Scotty Cummings...

and theres your future learning from the past...
