Synners,

any more details you can give us? Partial or full spill, etc, or do you have to keep mum?

If you guys seriously cannot wait until it actually happens, instead of demanding more and more details, you should consider getting therapy!

In the meantime, here's something to keep you occupied ...

how long is a piece of string?

Look as far as a partial or full spill is concerned.. what happens now will pave the way for great things to happen at a later date...and it wont be long before were feared and were not meek anymore..

How it pans out exactly after this is anyones guess except to say it will be very beneficial to this club going forweard and alot of the things we have been screaming out for will materialise.

Still not happening until just prior to Christmas on my radar - but what you're (sooth)saying Synbad sounds very promising indeed...YET - worrying.

I'm not sure why anyone would put the club through more media scrutiny while football is very much still on the agenda. A battle to begin in the first week of December and the dust to settle around Christmas is still the way I see things panning out - rather than seeing headlines...

Hey, I've got no problem with waiting, if there is to be change I most certainly want it done right.

My only problem at the moment is whether these people are the right people, or are they just different headless chooks.

If they have told people "we will challenge this Friday" or "we are ready to go today", then I have to question whether they can run any football club, let alone our pretty sick one, if they can't get themselves together.

But if it is only the people spilling the info who are coming up with these statements, (as in their own interpretation of "we are almost ready"), that is a different thing.

So which is it?

Only an opinion piece but another back step by our current board?

http://www.realfooty.theage.com.au/real ... 33384.html

"This column pointed out two weeks ago how the Fevola situation could have been avoided, not to mention the poor handling of its aftermath when the player was left to his own devices. Carlton is keen to maintain a close relationship with the AFL and has chosen now not to complain officially, but the club was disappointed to say the least with how league officials in Ireland dealt with its troubled star."

This is what happens when you live off the 'generosity" of the AFL.
You dont complain, you dont rock the boat.
You become a lap dog.

The only reason that the club should be swallowing pride is if they fear the need for future Afl funds and assistance. Its not as if the AFL can call in its loan early because we lodge an official complaint.

The sooner we have the monkey of our backs, ala the loan, the sooner we can start giving them curry like the old days. I agree the only good lap dog is an ugly lap dancer.

Jimmae,

all relevant parties were told this week that financially, we are now back in very very dangerous territory - we are going the other way again.

The AFL threw us $1.5 million but it's almost negligible. The NAB have closed the door on us - no more credit. If we slide any further, I believe the message was very loud and clear from the NAB.

If the new board don't move in the liquidators will.

When they were stretched for resources already and they institute departmental changes which involve taking on more high-level staff, I'm not surprised that it's put them in a position where they're flying by the seat of their pants.

They were too defensive with their budgeting and strategies (and in some areas they still are) and they made the switch to more aggressive moves too late. They've tried, they've failed, they now have to move on for the sake of public confidence. I get that.

The question for mine is - did they really do that bad a job? If yes, ok we laugh in years to come.

If no, what can we look forward to without on-field results in the short to medium term? I'm sure the cashed up folk that are holding out are anticipating a one-time cash injection and pride is restored.

That's John Elliot's fantasy land. Maybe they should talk to his son instead.

Reading this should twist everyone's gut. This is where we are at, despite years of cost cutting and 'not doing the little things'.

It should not surprise that a creditor would not advance additional credit to us. After all, successive cash losses point to the business not being sustainable. NAB (or any creditor) would want to see the debt level reduce over time, not advance, and whilst the Club has reduced the Legends Stand debt over the years, if there's no operating cashflow to service the debt then it's straight to the bad debt team who need to accelerate repayment.

In this regard, and if true, and I have no reason to doubt preacher, most if not all of the Directors should resign and hand over to a new team. It should be no shame at all to admit defeat on this. If they don't have the ideas or cash or power to take it forward and improve the situation then they do not belong in their role.

They should be opening the books and doors to all interested Carlton people to advance our cause. If you can't solve our problem you should move on.

to reduce the Legens stands debt we had to sell our soul. i too cannot blame the creditors for wanting to minimize their exposure even though the NAB made eleventy squillion dollars last year.

maybe we should call Jacque from Zenian finance. Every time his add is on the radio I try not to think of Carlton.

They are people who could run an Essendon* maybe.. if the infrustructure / business was right and solid.

They had no clue on how to run a North Melbourne.. Bulldogs.. CARLTON.

they were not prepared to do anything else but run it on tight budgets.
they took their eye off the ball because they forgot you have to grow it.. and you cant grow anything if you dont get alittle bit adventurous.

Tjhey did the first bit well.. they went in they saw what needed to be cut and bring the books back.. but then there has to be a day that you take a chance.. you take a step forward.. and you stake a flag there and then you keep going.

We just didnt take any chances.. we didnt look at any businessplans or real blueprints into the future because we were too busy cost cutting.

There are two sides to any business. One is bottom line.. the other is top line.

We dont have a business.. were further into debt and were expecting to be kept on life support by the AFL...

That was the easy option.. the harder option was to find the money...develop a plan.. build side businesses.. invest into the kids and development and begin strategies into the future that were cutting edge..

We just ran the club steady as it she goes with no imagination.

On and off the field.. and were paying for it.

Oh and by the way... i would expect Sticks to fall onto his sword this time.
He has twice backed the wrong man .. and clearly has no idea about business and running an organisation.

should be no more than a club ambassador.

Do the right thing Sticks..

finest piece of wisdom i have read Synbad. Did a poll and the overwhelming majority felt the same way..

Not a reflection on his passion just his input ability at that level..
