HSV 7's news had the story that Nick Stevens has his hand up for the captain's gig.

And has suggested Guru Fev as deputy...

Senior players actively campaining for the captaincy... regardless of who gets it and whether or not they're qualified, it's great to see guys wanting to put more into the club. I love Campo in red and black.

great to hear. stevo had a very up and down season last yr (as much as u all piss and moan, it was due to injury) and would be pumped to hit the ground running and deliver a 2004-2005 style year in 2007.

i said at times during the season some of stevos experience and leadership really shone thro...he was marshalling the younger guys on several occasions and directing traffic on others also.

really encouraging to see guys want it. this is also means he'll probably stay!

Stevens should be a candidate for the captaincy.

For all those that have bemoaned his performances - keep in mind that he usually received the best or second best midfielder as an opponent - or he was tagged relentlessly.

Whitnall- meanwhile - often gets the worst player in the opposition's attack.

I can accept Whitnall as part of a leadership group/co-captain etc.. but if he is made sole captain i really believe we are sending out the wrong message.

IMO he most obvious candidate for captain since Fevola put that goose in a headlock is Stevens.

Whitnall would be a sentimental favourite for many due to being FS, name on the locker, playing at Carlton for 10 years, B&F...but that's not only criteria required to give a bloke the captaincy.

Barrassi had none of those, nor did Kernahan....and we know how great they were for us as captains.

My candidates for VC would be (in order):

Fevola
Whitnall
Lappin
Scotland

Fair point. Stevens also won a Michael Tuck medal whilst playing for Port.

And Port had a fair team too back when he won it.

I think he deserves a bit more respect than what he gets.
