I guess I'll wait and see who these mysterious, benevolent billionaires are before imagining they are the good fairy that will wave away all our problems.

Every Friday since the end of August they have been going to challenge and maybe they will and maybe then we will know what they intend to do.

Fact is it is very, very hard to be attractive to sponsors when onfield you are one of the worst sides ever. Each year now it will get easier as we get better and in a few years we will get better in a hurry. Trouble with imaginative schemes to solve our financial ills is that they don't always work. The idea of developing Oprus in mid 90s with the club riding high seemed to have something going for it. It was bold, could have generated lots of money if not for Docklands. End result - financially we are a basket case. There are clearly problems with the current Board, but we tend to think in absolutes. When Pagan arrived various prolific posters hailed him the saviour, applauded his tough approach and ruthlessness with players, now the things that were lauded as strengths are shocking weaknesses. We need new blood. But I am not expecting miracles. In tough times it is likely we will get ten people on the board who all have a solution to our probs, but it is a different solution for all of them.

Hopefully whoever takes over will do a better job, certainly they will take over in better circumstances with the club not far away from substantial improvement. Let's hope it is someone totally new, not just old cronies of Jack. Anyway I'll await the announcement with interest on a Friday sometime in the future....

That Boomtown Rats song should be changed to Tell Me Why I Don't Like Fridays!

Carlton has more millionaires than the Saudi Royal Family.

I thought the point trying to be made was

if the big money had withheld their support from the begining then how can we judge Smorgon/Board's efforts? How can we compare these efforts to a board that enters its time with that big money support from the outset.

On numerous occassions it has been stated that the boys with the big bucks will not invest in anything smorgon/board does - what chance does that leave them?

and is it fair to leave the club high and dry?

Are we so poor because of politics rather than anything else?

In the end it is important to get the money back into the club (yet at the same time we should be wary of just what this means for the club)

but there seems to be a bit of cake and eat it too stuff going on.

Surely there is a responsibility on the incumbents to demonstrate an ability to utilise the funds in a meaningful fashion?
A basic business plan which doesnt change substantially every 12 months would be a good start.

I cant blame people for not contributing large amounts when they dont have confidence in those making the decisions.

Flower rudder?

Anyway... does all this talk about people not investing in the club (because Smorgon's wet his pants and it smells funny) mean that these benefactors were anti-Collins as well?

Well, that's reportedly why many left the Club when Collo took over.

Really? I didn't know that. I was under the impression that most saw him as the man for the job, at the time. Possibly the only man for the job.

I remember the meeting at Crown when we had the 'huzzah for the new ticket' - lots of energised people that night.

When you say reported, Headplant - do you mean reported in the papers or 'according to others'?

EDIT - not trying to stir you up, by the way

... oh by crikey, YOU'LL know when I'm trying to stir you up, by crikey ... arrrrrrr - by jingo ... when we'd had our way with the women we'd THROW them overboard arrrrrgghhhh ...

Mainly from club gossip HTP ... you also need to remember that something like 20% of eligible members voted FOR Elliot. Collo clearly not liked by some supporters and coterie members ... not clear to me why, but then he was a hard man.

I think you have missed the point. The point is consistent as it is perhaps subtle.

No, the point is irrelevant.

Absolutely its irrelevant ...but nevertheless ODN did state it was all semantics...and that's all he was saying...just a point for discussion.

They're as good as gone till the next ticket with the loot, the plan and the connections is voted in.

I just hope that the current board is presented with the benefits of the new ticket, and don't try and go out in a blaze of glory...

I hope it's a swift and no fuss transition...that will be great for the club...CONSENSUS.

fine with that BV but the way its been put sometimes it sounds as if the issue is with personalites not with plans - and if that is the case then I feel a bit miffed - but heck its their money and money is power and maybe its really their club and their flags and their Big Nick and their Jezza and we're all just fools watching the wrong things spin around and around.

Maybe the inherent problems with Carlton are still inherent. Maybe they are part of the fabirc and we just have to live with it.

maybe people power is for the Roos with us its the shadow men with their big pockets and background egos.
