We know it's Lance on the right.

Obviously Little Eddie Betts in the middle.

Kade Simpson on the left after quite a few good years in the paddock post-retirement.

What do you mean ''all humour aside'', wasthesonofapreacherman (if that really is your name) ?
Synbad and I were having a serious intellectual discussion about a great work of literature and its relevant theme of how the past can be ''controlled'' by those who have total control of the means of communication..[/quote]

Phew! My Bad! I'm glad we cleared that up, I must have stupidly mistaken an attempt at "intellectual humour." I would assume most have been forced into reading Animal Farm as compulsory literature in English, hence most will be aware of George Orwell. In fact Hackenschmidt (if that really is your name?), you'll find far more relevant and recently used themes from his literature you could use to draw parallels to the footballing genius of Lance Whitnall, and inspire us with your supreme intellect, on this, an Aussie Rules forum.

Keep shedding those man-boobs Lance, 'cause remember, "Big brother is watching you" - 1984 by George Orwell.

P.S. Oh yeah, there's a literal translation to the name.

You missed the amazing 1997 year Lance had as a 17yo

OK, so you have to be an AA to be considered an AA in CG's book. Scotty West missed out and was third in the possession count.

So he had a better year than 1998 where you consider him good, and in this year he's OK...what does OK mwan in your book?

So if a player has done well on the field and injured himself playing for our club you write them off?

Now this is where he let everyone down including himself, and probably the reason Synbad and yourself wont forgive him. I agree it was crap.

OK? Define. he had a good year imo

Won the B&F....so you imply that anyone lets say after the top 5 in our B&F was just OK to garbage?

Not really nice from someone calling themselves the Carlton God....more like the Devil in disguise.

He's a Carlton player FFS. He's won our B&F. Just because he doesn't deserve to be captain in your opinion, don't you consider him worthy of being at the club, or worthy of some respect because he wears the CFC jumper, or at the very least did something positive to get on track?

Be nice CG.

My point exactly wasthesonofapreacherman. Just as Winston Smith had his every move scrutinised by a hostile, oppressive regime, Lance's every move is being closely watched by the''Ministry of Truth'' at Talking Carlton. Even God has been brainwashed into thinking that Lance was ''crap'' in 2002 and 2003. It is only a matter of time before Hackenschmidt also becomes brainwashed and starts to believe that 2 + 2 = 5.

I am very curious about this ''literal translation'' of your name wasthesonofapreacherman.

My guess is that your father is a minister of religion and that you started out as his son, but later had a sex change operation, thus explaining the use of the past tense verb ''was''.
You can tell me , I'm very open-minded.

Is the origin of your username inspired by some closet wrestler? In light of your now stated open-mindedness, I'd hate to shatter your dream of meeting a trans-gender poster, so I'll refrain from answering.

Oh ok, I was just judging his years as I saw them as an AFL player, if you want to factor in age then Murphy's 2006 was only OK, if you want to factor in Murphy's age it was outstanding. I guess I can have another attempt with Fatty factoring in age if that is such an important part to take into account.

1997 - Outstanding

Club B&F and considered in contention as AA CHB as a player in a defence constantly under siege = "Ok"?!

Kouta won the B+F last year, was his year better than OK? Look at every club in the league and look at the lack of quality defenders there are, Bowden was named AA CHB!! Someone who shouldn't be even playing in that position. Lance was probably second or third choice at the half way mark and third or fourth choice at the end of the year. Some how that has turned into "almost AA".

And "defence constantly under siege" is just an opportunity for Lance to pick up cheap kicks across half back.

Kouta tied with Kirk for first possessions in the competition in 2005, so yes - for a veteran running around the midfield to lead a stat like that is better than ok, especially since he had bugger all support in the midfield, unless by your reasoning that also somehow made it easier to rack up the stats.

The argument about Lance getting cheap kicks doesn't stack up either, since he was not played as a loose man and probably only had a couple of bags kicked on him.

I don't mind fans talking about ways we can improve, but it's tall poppy syndrome at its worst when it seems that a small group of "supporters" who continually target the guy that was considered by the club to be the best and fairest player on the list this year. Of course Lance can improve, but whether or not we become competitive again will depend on the players ranked 10-25 on our list, not our reigning club champion.

Thanks for the info wasthesonofapreacherman.

The wrestler George Hackenschmidt was the inspiration for the nickname of Norman Clark who played in Carlton's 1906/07/08 premiership teams, and later coached Carlton to back to back premierships in 1914 and 1915.
Described as ''this round, tough barrel of muscle'', Norman Clark bore a striking resemblance to the champion wrestler.

You may have noticed in George's biography that he lived with ''his French wife Rachel'' after his retirement in 1911, suggesting he was a heterosexual (even if some of the photos of him look sort of gay).
Not that there's anything wrong with it, of course.

Well I'm glad we cleared that up boys. Not quite sure what your personal usernames have to do with Lance wanting the captaincy, but I'm sure we'll get there in the end.
