Carlton release Chris Bryan

[quote]The Carlton Football Club has today informed Chris Bryan and his management that the Club was not in a position to accept the terms they proposed for a new contract going forward. As a result, Chris will not be continuing his AFL career at Carlton and has the opportunity to nominate as an uncontracted listed player by next Tuesday for the Pre-season Draft in December.

“We believe our offer to Chris was fair and reasonable, however Chris was seeking additional security in the terms he was prepared to accept. We understood his position, however we were not prepared to meet those terms. The Club would like to wish Chris all the best in his efforts to continue his AFL career at another clubâ€

How does that work?

If he stays next year - is he on the AFL base salary?

If he decides to walk after the draft and before the PSD, (i.e. the Filth make him an offer for two years for example) doesn't that mean that we would have to take another player in the PSD? (because we have to have a minimum number on our list).

Wouldn't it be better to have that chance in the draft?

what is the position.

He will either have to be re-contracted or delisted prior to the PSD. It's too late to delist him before the draft but we can delist him prior to the PSD, which will give us another pick.

Does this sound like a football department mistake, or is a second pick in the PSD as good as another pick in the Draft?

I would say it's Collingwood in his ear telling him they will pick him up.

We will have the extra pick in this draft too... to put it simply after this draft we have a full list (up to now we would have left 1 spot on our list for Cain) and then draft Cain with the spot freed up by Bryans delisting.

1 year was fair & reasonable, especially the way he seems to be regarded and it utilised. If anything, he was lucky to get 1 year based on output for a 23/24 year old in a wooden spoon performance in 2006.

Good luck Chris, I liked watching you play.

Hope the Pies have committed to 2 years otherwise you've just made a mistake.

No the draft picks had to be finalised a week ago. We have 6 picks in the ND. We will have to have 2 in the PSD- after Ackland we can go for another experienced player or a kid that wasn't drafted.

See ya Bear!

That leaves:

30 senior listed
&
2 rookies

which means
6 ND picks
2 PSD picks

If Kouta's put on the Vets list we get 3 rookie picks.

If rookie Jacko or Aisake is 'nominated' we get 2 rookie picks.

So long, Chris.

Thank you for your efforts at Carlton. I know Cain will smash you when we play against Collingwood.

So, who do we get now?

All of a sudden Clarke Keating in a Blues guernsey doesn't sound so bad.

Tristan Cartledge, defintiely no worse than Bryan. But if we even contemplate going anywhere near Henneman then i seriously give up.

Dissapointed, never thought he got the oppotunities that other less talented players got.
If Ackland or McLaren get injured, we could be in strife

had his chance to stay and didnt take it so he must be confident of being a lazy player at another club.

It's too late for any more rookies to be promoted.

Indeed it is, and in related news:

As a result of Anthony Koutoufides being moved back 'inside' the list, we're once again eligible to have a full quota of six rookies next year - but we're not certain to do so for financial reasons (costs have risen for rookies again next year). Yes, that's how dire our financials are.

Will be interesting to see how the club uses the additional selection in December now; you'd think if it's used on a youngster, that it'd perhaps lessen the chances of us filling all rookie slots. Much hinges on the rucking situation, and how well we address it on Saturday, one suspects.

It's no stretch to predict that Bryan's departure would increase our interest in ruck (and ruck/forward) types on Saturday - wouldn't be surprised to see, say, both Renouf and Tippett in the mix now.

- Deluca 202cm - French - 200cm - Bryan 197cm + Ackland 196cm, Mouse wont eat cheese, Cat wont eat Mouse, Dog wont chase Cat.

That just dont add up. :?

Another wasted pick on a ready made ruckman.....

How many wasted ruck picks is that now?

Lets just hope we learn our lesson (i say this every year) and pick up a young ruckman and develop him....NO MORE SHORT TERM FILL INS

This is a mistake by the club I think. We now have two mediocre mature ruckmen left. We will not pick up an elite mature ruckman. So even if we pick up an elite rookie ruckman then he will not be mature for another couple of years. Two mediocre mature ruckmen will not be enough I think.
