I have heard that our young recruit is suffering from hamstring tendonitis and the club is concerned

Wouldn't be suprised.

The guy is a massive unit and has big legs. The pressure from his quads, on his hammys, would be enormous.

A guy I play footy with, and he played Chargers too, had hamstring problems because of the simple fact that his legs were too big.

I wonder how "Big Nick" coped in his day.

He had huge legs.

Probably played his 328 games with hamstring tendonitis all his career and called it pulling up sore.

OP was never heard of in those days either.

OP is caused by excessive running in young blokes . I am only guessing but I would reckon the players of today run a lot more than they did in Big Nicks day.

In regards to Hammies it appears on the surface that since they started streching them and warming them up before the game there has been more injuries. Maybe they should just go back to the quick couple of drags on the cigarette a few quick sprints out on the ground and just get on with playing footy instead of all the garbage they do before the game now. I get buggered just watching them

Maybe they need to increase their amber fluid intake the night before like in the old days too.

Had a good chat with him at the training / family day.

A top guy and his enthusiasm and love for the club appears enormous.

Moved well at training today and said everything is well.

Enough for me.

Great to have that personality at the club.

Know you are reading - Good Luck Harts..... :-D

and no, the hamstrings did not cease up because of the excessive amount of sex im having....they are just fine

Thanks for that info Barnesy. Seems Harts has a real passion for the club. Great to read. :)

So we have conflicting info - one first hand hearsay that says he's ok, fit and raring to go, the other at least 2nd hand hearsay that he's physically impaired.

Melvey, your record is pretty bad. You should check your source before you post anything.

Y'know, back in my days as a budding soccer/AFL player ( ), every time I would stretch my legs I would end up straining or pulling up very sore, especially in my hammies. When I didn't I would pull up fine. Guaranteed. In the end, I would just stretch as little as possible (without incurring the wrath of the coach).

So Adam, my advice is just DO NOT stretch! 8)

There is some truth to this. The Powerlifting coach/director of Australia does not allow any of his pupils to stretch at all! He says he has scientific evidence, and from personal experience of almost 40 years of training, that stetching the muscle infact weakens the fibres in the process. He says he's method's more to do with strength training then preventing injury, so it probably wouldn't hold too much water in relation to Adam's problem.

Not the first time I've heard of stretching being of little use...I still do it though :?

Nicholls was big but he had a decent running style. Harts was a bad overstrider and, since his last hamstring injury, has worked his butt off to change the way he runs. The change is his running style has been really noticeable - so there are grounds to hope that the hammy problems are behind him (no pun intended).
