Pagan doesn't want to be sacked that is obvious. It's a pretty poor article all round really, she should just stick to reporting the facts instead of flying off on tangents about what if's and maybe's.

Interesting way of looking at things.
Pagan had the "guts" to mention it but did'nt have the "guts" to see it through.
And somehow this reflects on Smorgon. :?

The truly horrifying part of the article is to be reminded of the 8.5 million dollar debt.

It is why I have increased my membership this year and also swapped to Optus and write to Dan Murphy's when I purchase grog.. (with copy of receipt to prove that their backing of the club is noticed)

re: the bit at the end of the article about Silvagni being coach - look, for me, he may be an inspirational leader - notice how carlton fell apart the year he retired, but as a tactician i think he appears a bit second rate.

Listening to his commentary, he often seemed to back up what Blight or others said, and not really come up with tactical information of his own. That to me doesn't seem good enough for someone we need as coach. Maybe there is a lot of knowledge he has - but just doesn't display it via commentary team? ... but comparing him to a Walls or a Blight in terms of tactics, i think he is a bit behind them.

I hope I am wrong and he can contribute something in the future - as no one has done more for Carlton than the Silvagni's...

But you have the give the board some credit ... for maintaining our reign as the laughing stock of the competition. We ARE the (former) St Kilda and Footscray and (current) Kangaroos. How can the stench possibly get any worse? But it will ... GS and his mates have a unique ability to make matters worse when it seems we can't sink any lower.
More articles like this will help increase the chances of change. Even Caro can't believe how low we are.

I don't understand why Pagan felt pressure because of the board. What would they have done if Pagan didn't retract his statements? Sack him? :?

It's times like this when I understand why I stay out of this board most of the time.

It's a damn shame that now we're appearing to be getting our shit together onfield, everyone and their bloody dog wants a piece of the off-field action in a bad way.

I agree you either have to back Pagan all the way or Sack him,you can't have a coaching panel who dont get along or dont talk to each other,we have become a laughing stock to the rest of the AFL clubs.

As someone who is not a big fan of Caro, I didn't mind her article.

If she can stick it up them, then go for it.

What does concern me is the number of people who are talking about Board challenges/changes and what not, Sticks is seen to be untouchable -- that is very much an issue.

Do these challengers seriously think, that they won't have the support of the members if they don't endorse Sticks?

My worry is that Smorgon and Co will get through the AGM on the backs of the average supporter. The likelihood is that the team will make gains on-field next season, and that we'll be on an upward ladder climb for at least 4-5 seasons. This means the turkeys we have in charge will be kept on for at least half a decade on the back of on-field success.

As for Smorgon's view that we need on-field success for off-field success - did anyone see Essendon*'s profit this year?

Sorry but I fail to see what the board has done wrong. There is an under performing coach who is getting paid shit loads on money who has been put under the hammer and brought into line via the board .

I want the board to do this - Denis Pagan has run a muck over the past 4 years he has continually recruited hacks and was trying to do it again until the board intervened . The board may not have the finances to pay this guy out but they sure as hell are not going to let him get away with what he has been doing. The teams performances under this highly paid coach has been the worst in the clubs history.

If Pagan wants to go and sook to the media well bloody well let him but lets just see if he can earn what the hell he is being paid for.

Good on Smorgan and Co for truelly high -lighting what has been the source of most of whoa's over the last 4 years .

Pagan is on notice - He has been told he is not wanted - He is only in the job because we cant afford to pay him out. We cant afford to pay him because of the on feild performance and lack of crowd support .

The board has done nothing wrong in this regard
