I have been a massive fan of Skinny's ever since he joined the Blues, but it's hard to recommend him as captain based on his form and body language at various stages during 2006.

And to all those who want Fev as captain, I agree with all you say about his physical presence, marketability, and ability to fly the flag, but the unfortunate reality is that the captain is a spokesperson and figurehead for the club, and if you can't get it right off the field, you can't be captain in this age of media scrutiny (ask Ben Cousins)

Lance is really the only option and he can warm the seat until hopefully one of the younger brigade can take over

For mine (again):

Vice-C: Stevo, Lappin

So many simmilarities between Ricky Ponting and Brendan Fevola! And look how the punter has turned out!!! Geez i'd love Fev to get the gig but i just dont think we have the balls to do it...Thus my next choice is Stevo...Plays with his heart on his sleave and would be a great leader for the up and coming blues!

Whitnall by the length of the Flemington strraight. Always has been. It's obvious he's the best on-field leader in the club the way he takes control of things out there.

Agree completely.

I'd like to see Lance as captain with Stevens, Fevola, Simpson as Vice Captains and then round out the leadership group with Scotland, Walker, Murphy and a couple of others.

The only person Whitnall has intimidated with "his physical presence" is the club dietician every summer...

This guy has also shown minimal leadership over the seasons.

Let's not confuse "leadership" with "the guy who's been there the longest"...

BTW, can you imagine him mumbling his way through a media conference - pure inspiration!!

Lappin or Stevens should be way ahead in this vote.

If the players are voting then I'd be happy with whoever they pick. Can't see the board staying out of it if Fevola gets the vote though.

Lance sets the example on the training track. What was his time in yesterdays time trial? Oh that's right he had a sore knee.

Fev's the type of guy who would knuckle down and flourish with the extra responsibility IMO.

It's a moot point as we don't have a club with the fortitude to make such a decision, and the ability to support Fev once it's made. It's a damn shame because I reckon he has the potential to be the best Captain we've had since Sticks (not much to beat I know).

I hear what you are saying, Deano, but as a club, I just think we have had too many things go wrong on and off-field since 2001 to take the chance on what you agree is a risky appointment.

I just hope Fev can get his own affairs in order on and off the field in 2007. It takes a rare breed to shine on field while everything's crumbling to dust off it (farewell, Warney!)

IMO Fev can still be a leader without the title Captain, and perhaps he'll do a better job of it without the weight of actually "being captain" on his shoulders. On the other hand, Lance, Skinny or Steve O may flourish with the title as captain to push and work harder to set an example for the young group.

There's "Jaysus, that's a huge risk" risks and "that's a bit of a risk" risks.

Fev for Captain equals "that's a bit of a risk" for mine.

The potential upside of such an appointment is MASSIVE. The downside - well, we can't sink much lower. If he ballses it all up then we replace him.

Appointing Whitnall, Stevens or Lappin makes no sense to me. Whitnall doesn't have the charisma, and Stevens needs to concentrate on getting his football back on track after a disappointing '06 - ditto Lappin.

Either way whoever gets it is warming the chair for Murph - why not warm it with someone who has the potential for greatness in the role, rather than someone who is guaranteed mediocrity?

Was a Fev backer for captaincy but thats not going to happen.

Lance can be the leader ( P Dean ) who doesn't have to be captain.

Stevo captain
Walker, Waite VC's
Then a leadership group with, Lance, Lappin, Fev, Scotland, and Murphy

Lance - The Backline
Lappin - The floaters (flankers wings)
Fev - The forwards
Scotland - the fridge players week in week out
Murphy - The young brigade.

Either way who ever the club appoint i'd be pretty comfortable knowing this is who the CFC can picture (see ) holding up the Cup.

I don't even want Lappin in the side let alone being the captain of the club. He was simply shocking last year.

Warne could have definitely been captain for Australia - had his off-field indiscretions not have gotten in the way... would have been a great captain too (as good as Ponting? Not likely, but still very good)... sadly this is probably the path Fevs will go...

Fevola for mine *by a mile*, but unfortunately it won't happen...
