Do they count towards the membership count even though they don't get you into any games?

Thanks I was going to buy a couple for my parents who don't go to the games. I may as well buy one silver then and use it as a spare.

I think the cutoff point for a membership that counts towards membership numbers is a minimum of 5 games?

Is that why the Interstate Membership gets you 5 games?

It would be interesting to know how many Blue members we have.

Anybody know?

I'm a former Blue member.
It says member on the 'card'
Always felt I was a member with that.
I would think it would be the membership of choice for a great number of interstate members who have little or no chance of getting to Melbourne for a game each year.

That would suprise me if it wasn't included in the membership numbers.
means our member base is actually far greater than we are credited.

I'm absolutely positive that there is a minimum number of games element needed to be counted as a member in the 'official' numbers.

Not 100% sure on the number, thought it was 5, if interstate is 5 then that is probably right.

I think you're right, I wonder how many Blue members we have and I wonder how many don't realize that they actually don't count in the figures.

Can't vote!
Don't count in membership figures!

Basically it's a Supporters package if that's the case.
I'm sure Blue members who basically then donate their $66 would be pretty disappointed to hear that

I've only been a blue member and found out last year that they don't count. It sucked when I found out because I always looked at the membership numbers during our lowest time and felt proud that I was one of them. Turned out I wasn't one. :(

Am upgrading the membership this year to the interstate anyway as I will be over there for round 3 I hope. :)

Does anyone know if the interstate membership gets you into the interstate game in your state or just 5 Melbourne games?

Living in China means that I get to no games and hence the Blue membership. I also was under the understanding that it "counted". Maybe it should be clearer in the membership information section of our website as to what the base level was to be included in the membership count. Does anyone know? Can I upgrade?

The membership numbers are fine, but its just a number. Whats important is the money coming in. A $66 Blue membership not counted in the membership figures is just as valuable to the club as a $66 membership if it was counted.

Taff and WA Blue, if you can afford to upgrade thats great, but don't ever believe that because its not counted in the numbers it doesn't count at all.

If Mark H or Stephen M happen to see this thread and have any knowledge on how memberships figures are compiled, any response would be appreciated

Spot on. Money to the club is just as important as numbers between the clubs.

You can't be classified as a member on the one hand and not considered on the other due to games committed to seeing.

That's rubbish

Then in that case I have wasted thousands of dollars.

I tell you how I feel if that's the case...

Communication from our antiquated club has not been good ( let alone acceptable)...thank god we have a President that recognises we need improve in management

In defence of the club though, I am sure that is the case across the board for all clubs.

They all have a 'lower' form of membership they call a membership that actually does not count toward the official numbers.

It is all academic though.

Who is more important?

Someone who pays for a $120 membership and does not go to a game?

Or someone who pays for a $66 blue membership and goes to 3 games and spends >$60 on gate takings and merchandise?

It is a moot point, everyone who puts their hands in their wallet/purse for the club is a member really.

I can see the point people are trying to make.
It's about the money going to the club and not some official AFL count.
But if that's the case then we really shouldn't be too concerned with any membership barometers like the one that appears on the club website.

That is a pretty meaningless figure given the number of people that would have Blue memberships.

The important thing is that the club recognises them for what they are ..........members.

(That's assuming of course they are not counted which I still find rather curious. As Jarusa points out many clubs have that lower level of 'membership.')

That's it - anybody who contributes money towards a membership, or even merchandise is a member in their own right... you don't have to have your membership go toward official club/afl numbers to know that... :-D

I'd rather see more Blue memberships than AFL memberships - at least you know all the money is going to the club...

It would be good to know just how many Blue memberships there are, maybe a question for the membership dept.?!

I don't think it's fair that someone who spends $161 on an 11 game membership is counted when they actually save money on going to the footy and someone who gives a $66 donation for no return isn't.
I think these members should be recognized for their contribution.
