Now what about Lance on a wing ?? Could it work ??
Tractor this should be a new thread. I'm interested in others' thoughts on this, because since you mentioned it earlier today, it has been doing my head in...my conclusion atm is:
if waite is HB then its a good idea because a marking linkman with his smarts would be good (I think Fish would be better though)
problem is what happens to Lance's midfield opponent?......going the other way?
Good teams back themselves. If we were/are a good team we could minimise the pain on the rebound. But this would need to be maximised when linking through Lance.
If our midfield group is to be more efficient/ effective, they need to be fitter, being fitter they could cover more ground. But playing a player like Scotland as the cover could work. Scotland is fit enough to play this role. Supported by our onballers gettting back and then rebounding forward.
A great deal of responsibilty would go with this onfield position as the player becomes very accountable.
Could see it now Saddo spoils the pack, Walker picks up the ball shoots it out to Scotland who balances up gives the handball to Stevens, kicks up to Lance, who :
a. Moves it quickly to a leading Fev, Kennedy or the pocket filled by Murphy who has snuck forward..
b. Takes the mark quickly feeds it of to Simpson streaming forward who hits Fev 50 out on the chest.
Either way do this forward movement well and hurt the opposition, then don't worry about who covers for Lance . Watch how they cover Lance..
And when they cover Lance watch how we free up the running backs, Walker, Carlos, Thornton and Bower etc.
We could be anything...
Fast attacking football with quick forward movement...
