Oh yeah i forgot about Waite.... yeah then id take out Russell and have Waite in his spot. But then again im not sure i want Waite, Walker or Scotland that deep in defence. I think you would want these 3 blokes along the half back line so they can run and make the play, as well as Thornton.

I tell you what for once we have some options down back... its pretty exciting.

happy to have thornton at CHB.

the exciting part about putting a team together this year is i am struggling to fit them in rather than struggling to find guys to put in.

??? Setanta Bower
Waite Thornton Walker

I just struggle for a smaller back pocket player ? A Dean Rice type, thats the only thing i think we are missing in this back 6. Maybe Wiggins or how about any of the new boys, Benjamin, Anderson havent seen them does anyone think they would be up to it ?

Honestly guys, as much as a fit Saddington would help strengthen the backline, surely he isnt the key. If so we are going a lot worse than i thought we were. Dont get me wrong i think he will be very handy but thats about it.

For me we need to go with blokes like Setanta that can play on bigger blokes and once the ball hits the deck he can run. Our backline should be

Russell Setanta Bower
Walker Thornton Scotland

Thats nice... i like that, run and attack off the half back line

correct

I keep my lips tight about Sentanta :)

And the beauty of all this whether you agree or disagree with the role ( if any ) that Saddington may play is that we are all talking it up.

Even the CFC is ... 8)

A fit Saddo is a bonus, he is ( was ) the forgotten man. He might just surprise a few and also make others on our list push harder for a spot.

Now what about Lance on a wing ?? Could it work ??

As a side note, isn't it great that we're talking about the merit of players, not how shizen the administration is?

Only a few days before the Navy Blue takes the field in anger again - I CANNOT WAIT.

Tractor this should be a new thread. I'm interested in others' thoughts on this, because since you mentioned it earlier today, it has been doing my head in...my conclusion atm is:

if waite is HB then its a good idea because a marking linkman with his smarts would be good (I think Fish would be better though)

problem is what happens to Lance's midfield opponent?......going the other way?

Interesting to read back over the past year who has been saying what about Saddo. Some early calls that he was finished and would be gone by tye end of 06. Interesting to see who wrote him off last year, and who was still prepared to give him a go. Interesting to see how he goes this year as I really believe that it is a make or break year for him this along with others onthis site.

I would love to see him make it back onto the park for an extended time this year as I really believe that he still has much to contribute to the club. He would make a big difference in the back line and help marshall the defence. His backline experience would be very helpful, and give the club the chance to bring along some of our defenders a little more slowly without having to throw them to the wolves as seemed to happen with our previous #4.

Good teams back themselves. If we were/are a good team we could minimise the pain on the rebound. But this would need to be maximised when linking through Lance.
If our midfield group is to be more efficient/ effective, they need to be fitter, being fitter they could cover more ground. But playing a player like Scotland as the cover could work. Scotland is fit enough to play this role. Supported by our onballers gettting back and then rebounding forward.
A great deal of responsibilty would go with this onfield position as the player becomes very accountable.

Could see it now Saddo spoils the pack, Walker picks up the ball shoots it out to Scotland who balances up gives the handball to Stevens, kicks up to Lance, who :

a. Moves it quickly to a leading Fev, Kennedy or the pocket filled by Murphy who has snuck forward..

b. Takes the mark quickly feeds it of to Simpson streaming forward who hits Fev 50 out on the chest.

Either way do this forward movement well and hurt the opposition, then don't worry about who covers for Lance . Watch how they cover Lance..

And when they cover Lance watch how we free up the running backs, Walker, Carlos, Thornton and Bower etc.

We could be anything... :P

Fast attacking football with quick forward movement...

Well argued Tractor. I like it.

bring it on!

One thing that came to mind is the delivery of the pill to our fowards.

Simmo, Stevens, Murphy, Gibbs, Houla, Whitnall, Lappin are all good with their kick passes.

I hope Fish, Carrots and Kennedy's kicking for goal and passing improves in 2007.
